March Madness isn’t just for college basketball anymore.

More than a month after football’s February National Signing Day, the Kansas football program added to its 2018 recruiting class.

Jelani Brown, a defensive tackle from College of San Mateo (Calif.), committed to the Jayhawks Tuesday night.

“Since I was a little boy I have always dreamed about playing D1 football,” Brown wrote in a note on Twitter in which he announced his plans, “and God has blessed me with the opportunity to do exactly that.”

A 6-foot-2, 293-pound defensive lineman, Brown, the 12th junior college prospect in KU’s 2018 class, will be reunited in Lawrence with his CSM teammate Miles Kendrick, a quarterback who transferred and enrolled at KU before the start of the spring semester.

Brown, who completed his sophomore season at the juco level this past fall, told Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant he visited KU this past weekend before pledging to join David Beaty’s program.

After signing day, Brown, an unrated prospect according to Rivals, reportedly picked up offers from KU, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas State.

Brown plans to move to Lawrence in June to begin offseason workouts.
