In the indoor season, a student-athlete could meet the athletic requirement by either by ranked 96th or higher on the national performance list in an individual event at the conclusion of the regular season schedule or 48th or higher in a relay. In order to meet the athletic standard for the award in the outdoor season, a student-athlete must compete in the NCAA Preliminaries.
