An in-state senior prospect from Wichita’s Kapaun Mt. Carmel, Nick Channel announced Monday his plans to join the Kansas football program.

A 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker and running back at the high school level, Channel is expected to be a walk-on at KU.

Channel was named a first-team all-state running back at the Class 5A level following his final prep season, in 2017.

This kid is not entitled to a scholarship offer? He is a 6-1, 205 pd. running back, an all-state selection and has to walk-on? My only criticism of his tape is that when he runs the ball, he is so fast (4.5) no one touches him. It must be an optical trick.

He's not a JUCO player so he doesn't get a scholarship offer.

Maybe its implied that walkon now and they will give him a scholarship next year, maybe trying to save the other scholarships this year for the kids who are still deciding. Might be a good depth player. Who knows probably redshirt this year a we see him in a few years ready to go. Hopefully a good get.

My thoughts exactly Brad? Does Beaty think he is wasting a scholly on this kid that might go to all the other great recruits lining up to play for KU? Beaty certainly doesn't have the luxury of being picky with bodies at this point can he? His mindset needs to be: Find one. Field one.

I would just hope KU would recruit and offer scholarships to Kansas kids where possible. Mangino's teams had lots of out-of-state kids, but the core of his good teams were in-state kids and they had some idea of the traditions and legacies they were attempting to carry on. Their fathers probably told them about Bobby Douglass, John Riggins, Gale Sayers and John Hadl. IMHO, it makes a difference.

First team all state!! Glad to have him hopefully a diamond in the rough. Rb? Lb? Where does he fit best? Maybe a big change of pace running back to go with all of our speed running backs.

I actually prefer seeing those big tall bruiser running backs to the smaller compact racers.

sounds like a good player to add. This is the type of player that we were expecting Beaty to bring in.

We were supposed to have a walk-on program full of these homegrown all-state talents.

Very good Football player. Right now we get him here and put him in S&C and then after a RS year we find out if team needs and player skills make him an LB or RB. He will most likely contribute first and foremost in the resurrection of our Special Teams play.

This kid will out-perform Beaty’s judo scholarship athletes. Easily.

C'mon Man! Grant Him a Scholarship ASAP!

He will "Channel his Energy" in the "Nick of Time"!

I wonder who will coach him after his red-shirt year?
