Kansas defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. (2), Kansas defensive tackle Daniel Wise (96) and Kansas linebacker Osaze Ogbebor (31) celebrate after Armstrong sacked Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) during the third quarter on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at Memorial Stadium.

The University of Kansas football team will only lose one half of its imposing defensive line duo heading into the 2018 season.

Six days after defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. announced he would skip his senior season at KU in order to enter the NFL Draft, defensive tackle Daniel Wise reached his decision, opting to finish out his college career with the Jayhwaks.

In a tweet hinting at that conclusion Wednesday night, Wise posted a photo of himself wearing his No. 96 jersey and huddled up with his defensive teammates, along with a two-word message: “unfinished business.”

A KU football official confirmed with Wise that his Twitter post indeed meant he will return to Kansas for his redshirt senior year.

HIs final verdict came five days before the NFL’s Jan. 15 deadline for college underclassmen to apply for special early eligibility.

Though his impressive 2017 season wasn’t enough to propel Kansas (1-11) to a successful year, Wise was named a first-team All-Big 12 defensive lineman by conference coaches and elected to the second team by the Associated Press.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound interior lineman from Lewisville, Texas, delivered 53 total tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and five quarterback hurries.

While KU will miss Armstrong on the edge, the return of Wise means the Jayhawks lose one impact defensive lineman and captain instead of two. Plus, it puts the defense in position to have the majority of its starting lineup back in place for 2018.
