KU volleyball notches comeback win at Arkansas

Behind career-high kill totals from juniors Patricia Montero (16) and Zoe Hill (14), the Kansas volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Arkansas. The Jayhawks claimed a 3-2 victory (21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 27-25, 15-8) Friday night inside Barnhill Arena.

"I think they served for the match in the fourth set, and we always seemed to have an answer," head coach Ray Bechard said in a team release. "There was nothing pure about tonight, both teams with attackers and typical first-night jitters. But certainly we found a combination that started working for us about halfway through the match. The team believed in it, bought in and played really hard. As long as you play hard and give effort the execution hopefully will come."

In the first two sets combined, the Razerbacks posted a .257 hitting percentage and only committed nine errors. In the final three sets of the match, Arkansas combined for a .040 hitting percentage and added 23 errors.

Sophomore Annika Carlson paced the Kansas offense with 38 assists, while senior Gabby Simpson added 12. Junior Allie Nelson recorded 26 digs, and freshman Lacey Angello finished with 21.

Kansas plays host to Arkansas at 1 p.m. Sunday.

I may be all wet, but it seems the word "attackers" in the second paragraph should probably read "attack errors." Either way, please feel free to delete my comment.

Congratulations on the gritty win, Jayhawks! It's going to be fun following the development of this team.

listened to the match last night. - These ladies are young , but I'm telling you hav to give our Ladies MAJOR MAJOR props.. - - They came out started the 1st set on a 8-2 run and then BAM things went South and ended up losing 1st set 22-25. Before you know it we founds ourselves down 0-2 and being on the verge of being swept. -The Ladies showed a lot of toughness , could of cashed it in for the night but stuck it out played really hard and things started coming together getting crucial points in crucial part of the game , tied it up 2-2 and then pretty much had control of tie breaker ending up winning 15-8 - -Great job ladies , 1st match of the year , on the road , with a young squad a match like this has to give them some confidence for sure.- -Might be a very interesting year , gonna struggle at times but will be nice to watch them grow , expectations not that high from me anyways just hope to continue to fight I think they are gonna be just fine. - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

It was also a win against Arkansas. Long was the previous AD at Arkansas, so I’m sure he was happy with the KU win

Montero is a player, and having Simpson setting also at the same time as Carlson, gives us something a little different.

Wonder why the other 2 freshmen did not see any action?

If this team improves as season goes on, they have a good shot to get back into NCAA and keep streak going.

The freshman libero was really good.
