Jayhawks place at NCAA Indoor

Kansas junior Barden Adams took fifth place in the triple jump, and KU freshman Gleb Dudarev was sixth in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor on Saturday at College Station, Texas.

KU’s Ivan Henry, Tre Daniels, Jaron Hartley and Strymar Livingston teamed to take 11th place in the 4×400 relay.

The Kansas men tied for 27th place, KU’s best NCAA Indoor finish since 2011. The KU women placed 52nd.

“This has never been an easy meet,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said, “and I guarantee every team here says they wish they could have done a few things better, and we’re obviously included in that. Our kids fought their hearts out but, unfortunately, they didn’t place as high as we wanted them to. As we go into the outdoor season we have to remember this and remember this feeling of when you set goals and don’t attain those goals. We just need to use this as a reality check and work to get better because of it.”

Adams’ performance earned the junior first-team All-America honors for the first time and gave Kansas its fifth All-American in the indoor triple jump.

“Barden had a great meet and he really stepped up. That’s what this competition is all about – being both physically and mentally ready,” Redwine said. “He showed and proved today that he was mentally ready and physically prepared.”

The Jayhawks will open their outdoor season March 29-April 1 at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

KU will also have contingents in action at the Stanford Invitational March 31-April 1 in Palo Alto, California as well as the Emporia State Relays on April 1.
