KU volleyball adds Arizona State transfer

Looking for more depth in the middle of the court, the Kansas volleyball team added transfer Mmachi Nwoke, KU coach Ray Bechard announced Tuesday in a press release.

Nwoke played at Arizona State, registering 54 kills and 45 blocks in her freshman season.

"The timing couldn't be better for both of us,” Bechard said, “because we need depth at the middle blocker position and she, being from the Dallas area, wanted compete at the highest level in a conference that brings her closer to home.”

Nwoke (pronounced: mah-CHEE WHOA-kay) will be eligible to play next season as a sophomore.

Good call TK! One month ago writing about needing to sign one or two more Big 12-ready middle blockers to compensate for the graduation of four-year starter Tayler Soucie. This late in the recruiting season, Big 12-ready basically means a transfer or graduate transfer. Keep in mind that in volleyball, transfers are not required to sit out a year.

You mention Cassie being replaceable. Will you be writing on that?

It would also be nice to hear about the facility expansion.

She was allstate in Texas in High School, and she played a lot as a Freshman, this is a very good get for us. I still think that we have one more schollie to give? It is so important to be able to block and kill with height, and not be rotated out of a game like we were in the last match with Creighton.

Gerry She is 6-1, and obviously a good leaper. Losing Taylor we needed her bad. I am a little surprised that wee did not recruit earlier on, since we lost 3 players. I wonder what our plan B was.
