A big double-double in the Kansas basketball team’s Big 12 opener at TCU on Friday earned starting senior center Landen Lucas conference player of the week honors.

Lucas, a 6-foot-10 center from Portland, Oregon, scored a season-high 15 points and hauled in a career-best 17 rebounds in the Jayhawks’ 86-80 road victory. It marked the veteran big man’s first double-double of the season and fifth of his career.

Lucas shot 7-for-9 from the floor. His 17 boards were the most by a KU player since Andrew Wiggins recorded 19 at Iowa State, in 2014.

Three different Jayhawks have now won the Big 12’s weekly honor for the league’s top player. Lucas joins senior guard Frank Mason III (Nov. 17 and Dec. 12) and freshman guard Josh Jackson (Dec. 27) as KU player-of-the-week winners for the 2016-17 season.

No. 3 Kansas (12-1 overall, 1-0 Big 12) plays host to rival Kansas State Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse (ESPN2).
