Maddie Stein tied Kansas University softball’s career RBI record, and the Jayhawks won two games in the Rock Chalk Challenge on Friday at Arrocha Ballpark.

The Jayhawks (27-2) scored 10 runs in the first inning of a 13-2 victory over Eastern Michigan, and Alicia Pille ran her record to 16-0 in a 5-2 triumph over UMKC.

Stein drove in two runs against UMKC to bring her career RBI total to 140, tying her with Maggie Hull-Teitz for KU’s all-time record.

“Maddie is consistent and steady for us,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “When she comes up, she’s going to do something and she’s been that way since the day she walked on campus. She is very confident in herself, she hits the ball well and has quality at-bats. It’s going to be exciting when she breaks that record because a great Jayhawk broke that record just a couple years ago and Maddie is another great Jayhawk. It’s going to be fun to be a part of that.”

Pille retired the first 10 batters against UMKC.

Sophomore Lily Behrmann tagged a first-inning grand slam in KU’s victory over Eastern Michigan.

“Lily’s a pesky hitter. She has potential to hit for power, she can lay down a bunt and beat it out,” Smith said.

KU will meet Georgia State at 1 p.m. today at Arrocha Ballpark.
