KU sophomore Lokedi second at NCAA Midwest XC regional

? Kansas sophomore cross country runner Sharon Lokedi placed second at the NCAA Midwest Regional Friday to qualify for the NCAA championship meet for the second consecutive season.

Lokedi clocked in with a 6,000-meter time of 20:00.7 to lead the Jayhawks to fifth place in the women’s team standings. Hannah Richardson and Malika Baker joined Lokedi in the top 20 in 11th and 19th place, respectively. The KU women’s team still has a chance to earn an at-large bid to the national meet Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Michael Melgares paced the KU men’s squad to an eighth-place finish. Melgares finished 32nd with a 10,000-meter time of 31:00.3.
