— Maryland coach Mark Turgeon, who played and coached at Kansas University, did indeed watch Monday’s thrilling three-overtime win over Oklahoma, in Allen Fieldhouse.

“I watch those games like, ‘How in the heck did I ever play in these kind of games?’” Turgeon said Tuesday as reported by 247sports.com. “I’ve been watching it for 40 years. I don’t know how many games KU has won that they shouldn’t have won and last night was another one.”

“Oklahoma was hot, whistle wasn’t really going great for us, and we were able to pull it off in the end,” added Turgeon.

He played at KU from 1983-87 and worked on KU’s staff until 1992.

“When you have a passionate fan base like we have, it helps you win games sometimes you’re not supposed to win.”

He was asked by 247sports.com to recall his most memorable game played at Allen Fieldhouse.

“One game Danny Manning and I combined for 45. I had three,” Turgeon cracked.

He was being modest, of course. Turgeon is 12th on KU’s all-time career assist list and had a stellar career for the Jayhawks.

I understand what Turg is trying to say, but as much as I liked this whole article, I don't love that he suggested KU shouldn't have won the game. Again, I get him, I really do. But OF COURSE the Jayhawks should have won the game. They had the most points.

I remember when Turgeon was recruited and decided to become a Jayhawk. Larry Brown was thrilled. He loved Turg. Loved his enthusiasm and effort. He's come a long way. Proved to be a great coach.

“Oklahoma was hot, whistle wasn’t really going great for us, and we were able to pull it off in the end,” added Turgeon. --- he IS a Jayhawk.
