— Kansas basketball coach Bill Self spoke to his team about pre-game hype on Saturday, before his Jayhawks finished a regular-season sweep of Oklahoma, with a 76-72 victory at Lloyd Noble Center.

“I told our guys before the game, it’s not really fair because everything’s Buddy, Buddy, Buddy, Buddy, Buddy, Buddy. That provides natural motivation for other people,” Self said.

“He (Hield) deserves every accolade he’s received and will continue to get. (But) good players get tired of nobody talking about them and always talking about somebody (else). I didn’t say, ‘Use it as motivation,’ but I think our guys did,” Self added.

Gifts: OU coach Lon Kruger and OU assistant Steve Henson, who both played at Kansas State, both made it a point to chat with KU radio announcer Bob Davis before the game.

Davis, who has been play-by-play voice of KU football and men’s basketball for 32 seasons, will retire following the 2015-16 hoops campaign.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione and former OU coach Billy Tubbs presented Davis with a combined OU/KU hat with Davis’ picture on it, as well as another KU hat.

I knew it be any ACC team by vitale. And I too am tired of the constant though warranted chatter of buddy. Last year in Norman they win in OT and that game gave buddy the leagues mvp when perry was also right there but he had injured his knee and was less than 75% for that game and for the rest of the year. No injury and perry and Kansas wins that game with perry getting the leagues MVP I bet. It's not like buddy was some 5star either, I give him credit for his outstanding 3-point shooting & free throw shooting but his 2-point shooting and D are average. And the Zebras kept OU in the game in the first half. There's a photo up with frank driving and buddy has his hand on Frank's shoulder but no foul called. Buddy drives by a ku player and a phantom foul is called. You can't even breathe on buddy w/o a foul being called.

I interpreted Devonte's finger to the mouth "shush" as a response to the Hield hype. I don't think Buddy is overhyped (media pretty much overhypes everything), but I did like the swag-factor from our baby-faced guard. Without going Morri, our guys need that display of confidence.
