KU women’s cross country debuts at No. 21 in national poll

By Staff Report     Aug 30, 2016

The Kansas women’s cross country team will open its season Saturday ranked No. 21 in the nation, according to a preseason poll released Tuesday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The ranking marks the Jayhawks’ first appearance in the USTFCCA poll since 1998, when the team was ranked No. 15.

Kansas returns most of its roster from the squad that qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2015. Top runners include sophomore All-American Sharon Lokedi, who placed a program-best 10th at the national meet last year, and senior Hannah Richardson, an All-Big 12 and All-Region performer who sat out the past two seasons because of injuries.

The Jayhawks’ season will start Saturday with the Bob Timmons Classic at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence.
