Josh Jackson, a 6-foot-7 senior shooting guard from Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif., who will play in today’s Nike Hoops Summit (2 p.m., ESPN2) in Portland, tells USA Today he will announce for either Kansas University, Michigan State or Arizona at a yet-to-be-determined time on Monday.

“It’ll be at my house (in Detroit). I wanted my family around and I’m just ready to do it,” Jackson, the No. 1-rated player in the recruiting class of 2016 said Friday, offering no other details.

By the way, he later told reporters the decision could come Wednesday, the first day of the month-long signing period.

Diallo likely off to NBA: KU coach Bill Self, who was a featured speaker Friday at a coaching clinic at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic High School, reiterated his previous statements that freshman Cheick Diallo will not return to college for a sophomore season.

Self told Zagsblog.com’s Adam Zagoria that Diallo likely will sign with an agent next week, but that’s not 100 percent confirmed yet. To this point, the 6-9 Diallo has said he’s entering the draft, but has not inked with an agent.

“I don’t anticipate him (Diallo) coming back,” Self told the Journal-World on Friday.

It won't be hard missing a freshman talent that was even less of a contributor than Cliff Alexander. Whether or not he eventually makes the NBA once his mind, body and maturity evolve into that illusive "potential" he has, Diallo will very likely be earning a good paycheck for 19 years + old. To bad that the NCAA did not give him the "clearance" in September. I wish him well and will be following his progress toward his dream.

Marius Rowlanski 1 year, 8 months ago

There was obviously some disconnect between Self and Diallo. I'm blaming neither at this point.

It no longer matters.

Bragg though, could become a superstar at KU and nothing but upside on Vick. Not seeing Perry will be strange next year.

Brett McCabe 1 year, 8 months ago

Deleted my own comment. Just whizzing into the wind...

Marius Rowlanski 1 year, 8 months ago

Ha! Thought I was the only one who ever did that.

Robert Brock 1 year, 8 months ago

Diallo had months to pick up Self's offensive and defensive schemes; unlike Embiid, Cheick just didn't get it.

Steve Macy 1 year, 8 months ago

With my demented humor, I fully look forward to another delay in the announcement.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

With the crowning of the 2016 national champs just a few days old the " experts " are back at it. The 2016-17 early preseason rankings are out ....I mean early ranking Of course things will change with the news of where Josh goes and the team who gets him will move up in the rankings.....The three in the hunt Kansas Michigan State and Arizona none of which are ranked number 1 going in so moving up is possible. But what is interesting is in one poll currently even before Jacksons announcement has KU number 2 which is really high given what Duke and Kentucky has coming in along with their current rosters , that's really high . USA Today on the other hand has us at a more realistic ranking of number 9 going into the next season ,but that again is before Jackson decision . Also Ferguson continues to be part of the discussion to get both would be a bonus along with Az and Lightfoot who has impressive numbers we will have to see if those numbers translate to the college level if so that's great. This roster with the upperclassmen all playing meaningful minutes ,the development of Bragg. AZ and Coleby adding to mix ........Now we wait to see what other chips we will get to compete with Duke and Kentucky............

Oh by the way....We play Duke in the CHAMPIONS CLASSIC and looks like Kentucky as well in the BIG 12 / SEC CHALLENGE we will know where we stand in a big way if we play both........Since some have already have a Kentucky / Duke in the N/C game next year we are playing with house money ........

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

We will beat Duke in the Champions Classic to take over the top spot, if we are not already there. Later, we beat UK in Rupp for the first time ever on the way to an undefeated National Championship season.

Andrew Ralls 1 year, 8 months ago

Getting my 37-0, 38-0, 39-0, and 40-0 tattoos now. Covering all the bases since we don't have the full schedule yet.

Aaron Paisley 1 year, 8 months ago

KU won in Rupp last time they played there.

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

Right you are....65-59 on the strength of 21-53 shooting and 21 TOs

KJ Quartermaine 1 year, 8 months ago

I see you know your KU history real will there Suzi. You don't remember Michael Lee's big 3-pointer at Rupp in 2005 to help propel KU to victory? Apparently not. It's like people who talk to hear themselves talk, you type to hear yourself type

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

I don't see where Suzy was asked to provide a play by play. For all you know, she's has a picture of Lee's three on her office wall.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

I just want to chime in on the Diallo debate. I'm not defending him or blaming Coach Self . This is more about the process at which the recruits have to deal with. They are sometime created by the media the recruiting sites and all the hype that surrounds it With social media comes more exposure , These kids have mixtapes on youtube ballislife and other outlets its self promotion to the fullest as well as the networks showing highschool games on t.v. which now adds to their status ......Now the expectations are sometimes more than they should be and of course we buy into it......we want these recruits on our team ......but do we make them more than what they are .....absolutely . Bottomline they are just kids with the gift of being a great basketball players.some can handle all that goes with being a rising star ....some cant....Diallo was not a natural basketball player just like Embiid . But Jojo got it .but JoJo wasn't expected to be great so he didn't have any pressure on him Diallo was because of all of the hype coming in .To say we wont miss him is easy based on the fact he wasn't a contributor this past season........but had he not declared then we would be saying " with another year in Bill Selfs system Diallo should be ready to step up.....in other words we would be more supportive because he is on our team . But now he may not be .

Jonathan Allison 1 year, 8 months ago

Has ESPN told him yet when they want him to announce his decision?

My guess is that if his decision is down to Monday or Wednesday, then expect him to go to Wednesday and be on some ESPN signing day special.

Certainly he doesn't have to go on ESPN... just look at Wiggins, but most likely if ESPN wants him to announce on live TV then I would guess that he can accommodate that.

David Hall 1 year, 8 months ago

It's not going to be on ESPN he's going to twitter it out when he gets done talking to his family

Pedro Dudeson 1 year, 8 months ago

This problem with Diallo is not unique to just KU....it's a problem throughout college sports. The answer might be not allowing pro sports to allow recruitment of players until after 2 years of college...instead of allowing them to go pro only after only a freshman year. What's a real shame is all the money wasted on Diallo, and similar athlete's, that could have helped other students.

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

Great point about the money waisted on Diallo.

It would be cool to have an entire team regularly made up with 4 and 5 year seniors like Ellis, TRel, Lucas with a few 3 year guys like TRob and maybe Mykailiuk,,,and a OAD or DAO every so often, like a Wiggins or even what Jackson appears to be.

These guys like Diallo, Alexander, and to a lesser degree Oubre, leave me unenthused maxed out.

Marius Rowlanski 1 year, 8 months ago

These players get exploited enough in one year. The Universities make a lot of money off the big-name players, not the other way around.

Joe Ross 1 year, 8 months ago

The developments of the Diallo situation are mind-boggling. Utterly unbelievable.

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

The part about his 'mentor' calling Self to inform him about Diallo's NBA decision must have set Self off a bit.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

I was looking at this KU team as it is now with the current roster .................and I see 1 glaring need .............1 or 2 athletic wing players. We got the guards and the bigs ...........but a dominate wing or 2 wont hurt......plus if you have noticed during the week the transfers and graduate transfers were mostly guards .......maybe there are some 4 or stretch 4s out there especially a stretch 4 .....If our post play is good next year a stretch 4 would be a good compliment to open up the the lane which will give our guards more opportunity at the rim....Bragg is good 15 foot in or so but he is not quite athletic enough he will be a good player at the 4 if he works on his midrange jumper but he will never be a stretch 4..We will again have a 3 guard offense.....but a good wing that can shoot is a bonus.....we will see what the future holds....

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

Exactly why I wish Bragg had put his name in the NBA hat. He would have received the exposer and direct feed-back what he needs to work on to be an NBA player...perhaps even a lotto pick.

Brianna Zaleski 1 year, 8 months ago

Joe Ross,

My thoughts exactly. How hard is it to see the wisdom in returning? I don't get how these kids and their handlers don't see Self's track record, and then put a little faith in the process. He will get you to the league. Have a little faith and patience! And, in the meantime, have some fun in college. You'll never get those years and experiences back. Money can't buy those things... Mind boggling is an appropriate description... At least now we know why Diallo rarely saw the court the last 1/3 of the season, Self was wise to this decision all along. Why waste Bragg's development on a kid who's gone in a month anyway. Completely the right call on his part.

Joe Ross 1 year, 8 months ago

What a LOT of people arent getting is the fact that it's not Diallo's ability that's in question. It's his draft position, which could be improved next season. Again, for the kids in the back...it's about his PAYDAY! And you're right...if you can improve your financial gain AND have fun in the process then why wouldnt you?

Unbelievable...

Andrew Ralls 1 year, 8 months ago

Because it could also fall. What if Udoka is a stud and Diallo has to play behind both him and Lucas? Not saying it will happen, but it could. Regardless, I feel pretty good with Landen and Udoka at the 5.

Joe Ross 1 year, 8 months ago

It's one thing to say that draft position could fall. But a probabilistic argument needs to buttress that perspective in response the reality that draft position could change. Consider how big men have progressed in Bill Self's system. He is a capable coach that knows how to bring bigs along. He just won coach of the year. Consider also that floor time would improve Diallo's experience and skill level. Again--and this is important--improving his skill level in college is not an important consideration in whether he is draftable; we know, of course, that he is. But improving in college is absolutely necessary in determining his position in the draft, which is not THIS YEAR where it could be down the line. Here is where your concern lies: whether he would rise or fall. It's clear that at Kansas, given the above, that falling stock is not a concern with Diallo. Not only by virtue by what I've mentioned already, but if you consider that his performance has not been stellar this year by anyone's standard and yet he is still projected as an early second-rounder, I'd say concerns about falling stock are really not concerns at all. Again, the purpose of improvement is to move his position in the draft...and he only affords himself the opportunity by returning.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

Maybe Diallo doesn't think college is fun. Nobody acted indignantly when Leo Dicaprio or Justin Timberlake put off college...

The arrogance of those who want to tell others how to live is what's unbelievable.

Colby Hebert 1 year, 8 months ago

He is projected at 26 in one. His value may be his potential right now. If he struggles next year he falls all the way off the board. What would you do?

It easy to roll the dice and bet the farm when it is someone else's farm

Barry Weiss 1 year, 8 months ago

I think, again just me thinking, that Diallo knows Self won't play him much next year, so the D-league is better than riding the bench another year.

Mike Greer 1 year, 8 months ago

Diallo's risk is that he doesn't improve much over the summer and into next season. His progress was slow over the course of the season and perhaps going to a power school was a mistake for him. He might have been better off doing what Simons did and go to a non basketball school in a power conference rather than attend a championship contending school. His season at KU exposed his weaknesses not so much his strengths, if he can't figure it out next season, then his draft status would go down or he would have to stay 3 or even 4 years, in which case his payday would be seriously delayed.

Dee Shaw 1 year, 8 months ago

Remember all the time and energy people wasted with "Free Diallo" signs at games. Especially in Maui. Dick Vitale screaming "come on NCAA free Diallo". It was the most hype on a player that I can ever remember. Diallo tops Josh Selby. That's hard to do. Diallo scores a grand total of 81 pts in his remarkable KU career and he is expected to get drafted before Perry Ellis who only scored 1,798 pts during his KU career. Something doesn't seem right. It's comical.

Gary Bedore 1 year, 8 months ago

Too bad they don't let these kids go right out of high school, cause up to 20 high school kids would be taken in the first round every year and in 3-4 years almost all the NBA GMs would be fired for all the busts they'd taken. But like Bill Self says it will NEVER ever change. The NBA loves it this way too much as the colleges market their players one year and the NBA continues to call all shots.

Brett McCabe 1 year, 8 months ago

Gary, this is why the NCAA should step up and quit acting the victim. 3-year scholarship hit on any guy who goes pro. No one will recruit those kids and the NBA will change its rule.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

Not having exciting kids in college basketball is surely a secret to making the game more interesting. This will certainly benefit the NCAA by keeping all those pesky kids with NBA talent from dazzling fans.

Brett McCabe 1 year, 8 months ago

You mean like the Kansas Jayhawks and Villanova Wildcats? You were bored by talented, trained and mature basketball players playing the game at a high level? You'd prefer Selby, Diallo, Oubre and Alexander?

You miss the point pretty much every time. It's COLLEGE basketball. It's not the Development League, or the Minor League it's a league for college students.

Yes, in fact, it would be a far, far better game without OAD's, the distraction and the mess. Not even friggin' close.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

Or Wiggins, Embiid and all the dozens who were amazing....

Turning away the best talent is never the answer in any endeavor. Not something you understand.... from any perspective I'm sure.

Joe Ross 1 year, 8 months ago

Gary, sounds to me like the desire of the NBA is to push back the age, but in two years since the article (and the following quote) was issued there has been ostensibly little progress by the NCAA in creating an attractive financial incentive to keep kids in college:

"If we're going to be successful in raising the age from 19 to 20, part and parcel in those negotiations goes to the treatment of players on those college campuses and closing the gap between what their scholarships cover and their expenses," Silver said. "We haven't looked specifically at creating a financial incentive for them to stay in college. That's been an option that has been raised over the years, but that's not something that is on the table right now."

Mike Greer 1 year, 8 months ago

The NBA is never going to turn their D-League into a true minor league like baseball, as long as they have NCAA ball to do all the work. College baseball programs get very little attention compared to college basketball or college football. Thus baseball's minor leagues, fair fairly well, but basketball's D-league isn't much of a draw, and football's minor league is in Canada. In other words, the players get more exposure and hype and player following from college ball than they would the D-league.

I would prefer if you want to play NBA when you're 16 and you're good enough, you go play for them. If you choose to go to college, plan on playing 4 years of ball.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

Jackson is a serious talenwith NBA skills. He'll be a OAD.

Diallo will be a professional basketball player. If the NBA didn't require him to hang around a college campus for one season, he would not have.

He did nothing to cause scouts to doubt his potential.

Barry Weiss 1 year, 8 months ago

agreed, I think Diallo will do well in the NBA. Not his first year, but year 2.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

suzi are you suggesting bragg would have been better served going to the nba combine to see where he stands............true its not a risk to put his name in the hat to bragg but it is a risk to ku if the scouts like his potential....on one hand it sounds as if you are encouraging him to be a OAD ......but Diallo who probably is a OAD is now frowned upon because he is............as far as any money spent to get him eligible it was also in the best interest of the school......if the school stands aside and Diallo is allowed to play but issues arose afterward the school could not risk ncaa violations or vacating games or worse losing a chance at 12 straight titles......so dont think of it money wasted

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

I think any kid, whatever his desired profession, should investigate to the max career opportunities. Most kids do internships for their desired professions. The way the NBA combine is set up, it's somewhat like a internship to test where you stand relative to your competition.

If a kid lights it up for the NBA to jump into the first round, great...go for it.

As for Diallo, the thing that sets me off about him was the way he handled his decision...i.e. letting his agent or mentor call Self. Although the direct cost invested in Diallo was a folly, we did get residual value out of the deal, such as it shows how Self and the program will go through the max for their players...and how Lucas stepped it up to put Diallo on the bench.

Colby Hebert 1 year, 8 months ago

I am surprised Bragg did not declare. If he does not hire an agent, it only could help. .

Bragg with a bit more mass...Wow..He has surprising touch and he has the motor..

Steve Macy 1 year, 8 months ago

If Svi comes back I expect a leap in performance. He is younger, by just a little, than the HS senior we are fawning over. He is just growing into his body. I remember when Releford was a freshman, totally lost but a leader as a fifth year senior. Circumstances and talent are a little different, Svi the more talented and we will never see a fifth year from him but with maturing he can be a leader.

Brett McCabe 1 year, 8 months ago

Could definitely see Svi learning to dominate this year. He was really showing some flashed in the back-half of the season.

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

Mykailiuk coming back is as big or bigger than Jackson for the team, IMO. If he improves 50% of his Freshman to Sophomore leap...wow...just wow. The kid has tons of talent and plays a smart game.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

The Nike Hoop Summit was today The USA team won by the way Terrance Ferguson scored 21 points all on 3 pointers Josh Jackson also participated he added 7 .................But he announced at the game that he has picked a school which most knew. Now he announced not long ago that he will TWEET his announcement ,he is not doing the made for t.v. thing .So Monday is the day again he will TWEET his announcement no time has been set but these were his own words

Brett McCabe 1 year, 8 months ago

Fortunately, he'll have his family around him to watch him compose a 140-character message announcing what he's apparently known for weeks.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

if anyone has the espn app you can watch the game...Deandre Ayton is in it 7 foot center class of 2017....has ku high on his list......Azububuike is playing.....as well as josh.....who by the way didnt start.....one thing about Az he is not afraid of contact.....Another nugget a about Az he will be at KU at least 2 years because of his age......K U practices with Lucas and Az should be fearce....... they also play some defense in this game ......not just run and gun......Players to watch ....Jarrett Allen.......Terrance Ferguson.....Marques Bolden .....Thon Maker who declared for the draft did not play.........overall a few good uncommited players left .

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

Azububuike will probably be a 3 or 4 year guy. He's a major project.

Suzi Marshall 1 year, 8 months ago

Azubuike, who makes Cam Ridley look like some sort of a gazelle, does not come close to moving like Diallo.

Mick Allen 1 year, 8 months ago

He won't get pushed around and backed down on defense like Diallo did either . Once again Suzi, he has made it clear he will be here 2 years only.

Colby Hebert 1 year, 8 months ago

I believe Diallo was the 7th overall rated guy last year, that is lottery pick not project. What came to be was not what was projected but Embiid was the one supposed to be the project, he was rated 100+ when we signed him and as more people saw him he shot up

Allin Herring 1 year, 8 months ago

We just wasted allot of time and energy on Diallo. We ended up with this guy because he was the last highly ranked recruit and we had not gotten any. All other big programs dropped him like a hot potato because they could see he was a NCAA acceptance nightmare and did not want to waste their time with the guy. If the NBA want to waste time developing him let them have at it. He looked like a deer in the head lights every time his foot hit the court. We do not need him and just write him off as another Selby. Good riddance.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

I think he's the first college basketball player to ever contribute less than expectations.......

Aaron Paisley 1 year, 8 months ago

What KU did was show EVERY recruit that they will do whatever it takes to get them on the court including taking on the NCAA itself.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

allin to say it was a waste of time is not a fair assessment.....was he the player coming in ....the player we thought he would be.....no......to say he was dropped like a hot potato not so much.......would he have been better at st john .......or any other school interested .....who knows ...he would have started at a lesser school for sure ......did you think mason or graham or even lucas would turn out the way they did i didnt.....none were highly recruited .....i will admit i didnt.......none were 5 star athletes .....kansas doesnt recruit players who cant play.....you may have deemed him a failure as a jayhawk......but he will always be a jayhawk......so pull for him to succeed as a pro.......because he is a jayhawk.

Brett McCabe 1 year, 8 months ago

No, Allin is right. In fact, if you look up waste of time in the dictionary, Diallo's picture should be there. Massive distraction to start the season, massive effort on behalf of KU to get him eligible and, his reply? Bolt at the first possible moment.

However, this is on us, not him. As long as we keep making stupid recruiting decisions, we'll keep getting stupid results when it comes to OAD's.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

Brett.. Can you start a blog that details which kids to recruit and which ones not to?

Each season you could advise college basketball coaches on which players will be the most effective, stay the longest and generally fit the needs of the school the best.

That way you could share your unique genius and avoid being just another idiot whose 20/20 hindsight and Chicken Little anger makes them sound stupid.

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

suzi when you talk about the money the school spent on diallo.....next season look in AFH.....and look at all the jerseys the students and fans wear at the home games.....the school does ok with that revenue stream ....and i dont think when they are making money on these same players with jersey sales and what not the thought of making back the money spent on diallo comes to mind.....even though there are no names on the back its the name on the front that people recognize.

Billy Derringer 1 year, 8 months ago

Bla bla bla what if, could of, Svi is the most inportant player that i hope returnes, seldon should of stayed. This team needs a 4 that can score ( see villanova), mayhe bragg. If Josh signs 15-20 mins tops.i trust self we will have another title in 5 years tops. Diollo=bust.

Jay Scott 1 year, 8 months ago

The Chicken Littles suddenly think recruiting talented players is a bad idea.

Two months ago having four year players was a disaster....

Chicken Littles always end up arguing with themselves to see which of their ideas makes the least sense.

Colby Hebert 1 year, 8 months ago

It is too funny, they wanted 5 one and dones starting less than a year ago, now they want all 4 star 3-4 year projects..

What I like about Bill is...HE HAS ALWAYS DONE BOTH..So he in the middle and everyone wants him to go to this extreme or that extreme based on the flavor of the month...

It reeks of insecurity, oh no look at Kentucky, they got attention, we have to fire one of the best coaches in any sport on the planet..

Mike Greer 1 year, 8 months ago

I'd prefer the best players we can get to assemble the best team we possibly can. Sometimes 4-star guys pan out, but that's not always the case, some times one and done pans out, but that's not always the case either. If the goal is to win, then you need the best players you can get for the longest time you can keep them. If college basketball were easy, any of us could do it.

Marius Rowlanski 1 year, 8 months ago

Self should do what he always does - recruit the best players available. Self knows what he is looking for when out on the recruiting trail. Some positions take longer to develop players and some players take longer to develop. Self doesn't just look for players who fit their immediate needs but also 2-3 years down the road.

OADs are great but we have had a lot of success from players who are willing to work hard and stick around.

Janet Olin 1 year, 8 months ago

OK. I just want to say I am not scared and will not regret what Josh chooses. It would be cool i f he chooses KU, but I'm Way Over It waiting on players who think they're 1 and done to lord it over the media with their 'hat trick' media stunts. I've been a fan since Jojo, and this is really irrelevant to KU's success. Make your announcement and move on.

Lin Rahardja 1 year, 8 months ago

COME to KU, and get recruited like Wiggins next year. Go Josh!!!

Colby Hebert 1 year, 8 months ago

I like Diallo and I see the potential too. What was Self supposed to do though? Diallo would foul out before the first TV timeout of every game..

Mallory Briggans 1 year, 8 months ago

Colby to answer your question coach self had him play the 5 .......he was actually a 4 in high school.....he was not used at the 4 during the season ...if you remember self rotated Diallo Lucas Bragg Mickelson and sometimes Traylor at the 5 until he settled on a 4 man rotation wih Mick being the odd man out. But even with the emergence of Lucas and had he played his natural position where would his minutes come from ...Chances are he still would have been limited as he would have been in to give Perry a rest .Him playing his natural position may have sped up his learning his role on offense and defense. Remember Diallo was only 6 9 just an inch taller than Perry Svi and Greene ............would you play any of them at the 5 .....No. So again what if he played his natural position ....the 4 .......maybe he would have been more productive Bragg who played the 5 early in the season played the 4 when Lucas stepped up....but by that time self had soured on Diallo to give him time at the 4
