KU’s Havili named Big 12 player of week

The national leader in assists, Kansas University sophomore setter Ainise Havili, was named Big 12 Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday after guiding the Jayhawks to a 12-0 start to the season.

Havili led 15th-ranked Kansas in wins over South Dakota State, Gonzaga and Missouri State, with 12.7 assists per set as KU hit a combined .396 with 15.5 kills per set last week. She recorded a season-high 51 assists against Gonzaga.

“We couldn’t have the success we have had in hitting efficiency and kills per set without someone making great decisions, carrying out a game plan and having a good sense of who and when to give the ball to,” KU coach Ray Bechard said.

Awsome start ladies, now time to get REALLY serious, be proud of the ranking, just show the big 12 that when they come to play the Lady Jayhawks they best bring their big girl shorts and prepare for war. so proud keep it up

Congrats Ainise! Got to see your game against Missouri State with my oldest daughter and her friend. They both play volleyball, and they loved watching you play.
