KU’s Stigler, Albers earn top awards

NCAA 400 hurdles track champion Michael Stigler and three-time NCAA volleyball tournament participant Chelsea Albers were selected as Kansas University’s male and female athletes of the year at Sunday’s Rock Chalk Choice Awards at the Lied Center.

Stigler won the award for the third straight year.

KU basketball guard Frank Mason III won the Jayhawker Award, given “in honor of the pioneers who held true to their values through devastation and hardship while founding the state of Kansas.”

Other winners: football QB Michael Cummings, best Jayhawk in a supporting role; running back De’Andre Mann, Crimson Climb (academic award); softball pitcher Sophia Templin, True Blue (community, campus service) award. Stigler’s NCAA effort also won KU sports’ moment of the year.

Nice. Congratulations to all of the student athletes honored. You make us proud KU fans. Wow! I wonder why they already took down all the other blog posts of congratulations so soon?
