? Kansas University freshman Eli Mayr scored the only goal 25 minutes into the second half as the Jayhawks edged Iowa, 1-0, in a spring exhibition soccer match Saturday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

“I was really happy with the intensity today, especially on the defensive end,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We moved the ball really well and I thought we controlled the pace for the majority of the match. We created a lot of chances in the second half, which I wish we could have converted into more goals, but overall I’m pleased with the result.”

KU will host FC Kansas City, the defending champion of the National Women’s Soccer League, in a friendly at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Chalk Park. Admission is free.
