Kansas University sophomore wing Brannen Greene, who was suspended for Saturday’s KU-Oklahoma game for irresponsible behavior, “should play,” in the Big 12 tournament, KU basketball coach Bill Self said Monday.

“Brannen practiced (Monday), which he does every day. He needs to take care of his business. I’m excited for him. His attitude is very good," Self said on his radio show, Hawk Talk.

"There would have to be a setback for him not to (play). He’s been good since I told him (he was suspended). Certainly he needs to keep handling his business."

Earlier Monday, on Andy Katz’s ESPN podcast, Self stated: “It was a one-game suspension as long as he did what he’s supposed to do. Hopefully he’ll be on time, make it to class, do what everybody else is required to do. If he does that, no reason why he shouldn’t play. I think it will be better for him in the long run and for us to have some kind of hit right between the eyes and say, ‘We need you on all fronts, not just on the court.’’’

Hopefully this is the last time Brannen Greene will have to go to Bill Self's doghouse.

Even if Greene isn't making shots, his reputation on the offensive end means opponents can't leave him alone which will help others by preventing some double teams.

Good to see him return. Hope his shot returns, too.

In recent games, Greene has made 2 of 19 threes. The rest of his game is worse. And he is causing Coach grief with his poor off-court behavior and distractions. Grow up, Kid!

Sounds like "his poor off-court behavior and distractions" was really just a matter of being late for class. It is good for the team and Brannen that Coach sets the stds and enforces them, but it would also seem that it is far from a distraction for himself or the team. Brannen knows it is for his good, and I'd guess his parents have reinforced this to him as well, which is why his attitude has been positive. He seems to have grown so much in this regard during the past year, and on the court as well.
