Kansas athletes compile 3.0 GPA

More than half of Kansas University’s student-athletes on active rosters recorded a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, and 31 had a perfect 4.0 as the department recorded a combined GPA of 3.0 for the spring semester.

Soccer led the KU teams with a 3.40 GPA, followed by swimming and diving (3.35) and volleyball (3.26).

Football was the lowest at 2.71.

Fifty-six percent of Jayhawks on active rosters recorded a GAP of 3.0 or better.

“When you look at the department combined at 3.0 GPA, that’s awesome,” soccer coach Mark Francis said. “That reflects on the type of kids that all the sports are getting here, but also the academic support here is the best I’ve ever seen. There are a lot of resources being put into that area, and our advisors do a great job. Our kids are obviously taking advantage of those resources, and it has paid off this semester. I’m proud of them.”

I hope these aren't fake GPAs and we don't see any UNC/UT stories coming out of the KU Athletic Program.

The LAST thing the 2.71 football teams needs is news that those grades were fakes.

.....2.71....really?

I hear you, but if you are going to fake grades why not aim closer to 3.0? :)

So what do we attribute the football team's low GPA to? Lack of discipline or accountability from the previous coaching regimes, or football players who have always struggled academically for various and sundry reasons?

Also, our beloved men's hoopsters were third-lowest at 2.80.

Nice to see our revenue sports burning up the boards in the classroom...

I'd be curious to know the average GPA of the general student body.

I guess that "General Studies" is tougher than most other degrees offered at KU.
