Kansas tennis tops Houston

? Anastasiya Rychagova, Janet Koch and Maria Jose Cardona won singles matches, and Kansas University’s women’s tennis team defeated Houston, 4-2, on Sunday.

Rychagova won at No. 1 singles, Koch at No. 3 and Cardona at No. 6.

The Jayhawks also took the doubles point, with Cardona teaming with Summer Collins for a victory at No. 2, and Smith Hinton teaming with Rychagova for a win at No. 3.

The victory was the third straight for the Jayhawks (11-2). KU is off to its best record to start since beginning 17-2 in 1998.

“Today was a tough battle against a very talented team,” KU coach Todd Chapman said. “This weekend (wins over Tulane and Houston) was something we can build on and learn from. We look forward to getting home and getting in a few days of practice in preparation for our match against Texas on Friday.”

The Jayhawks will host Texas at 4 p.m. Friday.

Kansas tennis tops Houston

Freshmen Smith Hinton and Summer Collins took three-set victories, and Kansas University’s women’s tennis team defeated 49th-ranked Houston, 4-3, on Saturday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Madison Harrison also won in singles after the Jayhawks claimed the doubles point.

Collins rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Houston’s Maria Cardenas in the deciding match.

“I came out the first set not very confident,” Collins said. “After the first set, I knew I had to change it around, and I took the next step forward.”
