Kansas University senior forward Hunter Mickelson was involved in perhaps the offensive play of the game in Tuesday’s 78-53 victory over UC Irvine.

The 6-foot-10 senior forward from Jonesboro, Arkansas, hit a spectacular one-handed shot off the fast break — and ensuing foul shot — to finish a play that had coach Bill Self jumping up and pumping his fist in delight on the KU bench.

Perry Ellis tapped a defensive rebound to Wayne Selden, Jr., who passed to Devonté Graham. Graham fed Mickelson, who stormed in to complete the shot and charity that gave KU a 44-28 second-half lead.

“We were able to get the runout and the ball to Devonté. He has great court vision. Through contact and getting it on the glass it was able to go in,” Mickelson said of his bucket.

I've been saying since last year that Mickelson is our 5.

It will be interesting to see how all the playing time evolves as we head into conference play amongst all the KU players. Have never seen Self do a half season auditions with so many players.
