KU soccer rolls over Gaels, 4-0

By Staff Reports     Sep 22, 2014

Sophomore Courtney Dickerson and freshman Hannah Lukinac each scored a goal less than 10 minutes apart in the first half, and juniors Ashley Williams and Liana Salazar added goals in the second half as Kansas University bounced back from its first soccer loss of the season to rout Saint Mary’s, 4-0, on Sunday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

“I was really happy with how we responded today, especially in the second half,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We just looked a lot sharper. Our passing, our movement and our overall mentality were better. It was a good win for us as we head into conference play.”

Kansas improved to 9-1-0, while the Gaels fell to 5-5.

KU has allowed just one goal in the last 462 minutes.

The goals were the first of the season for Dickerson and Lukinac. Williams has four and Salazar seven on the year.

Kansas goalkeeper Kaitlyn Stroud had a season-high eight saves on the day, seven of which came in the first half. The shutout marked the 10th of her KU career, which elevated her to No. 4 on Kansas’ all-time shutouts list.

The Jayhawks will open Big 12 play on Friday against Baylor in Waco, Texas. Match time is 7 p.m.
