Kansas basketball freshman guard Devonté Graham had 10 points, three assists and one turnover in 14 minutes against Emporia State Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

“I thought he played well. He got to the paint, created pace for us when he came in,” KU coach Bill Self said. “He didn’t have a great week of practice, either. It’s good to see him play with energy and play confidently.”

Veterans Day: The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the official ceremonial unit and escort to the President of the United States, performed at the game. ... The Jayhawk players wore Salute to Service T-shirts as warmups before the game.

Next up: KU will meet Cal-Santa Barbara in the season opener at 7 p.m., Friday, in Allen. UCSB is led by 6-8, 265-pound senior center Alan Williams, who led the country in rebounding a year ago at 11.5 per game. He also averaged 21.3 points a game.

Really? Bill Self doesn't think so, or he wouldn't have appeared on Rome's radio show today to talk KU hoops with him.
