Fine and not-so-fine lines for Kansas

By Gary Bedore     Nov 4, 2014

Mason has fine line: Kansas University sophomore guard Frank Mason III had 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the Jayhawks’ exhibition victory over Washburn Monday at Allen Fieldhouse.

“I think we were pretty solid. We could have been better. We pitched the ball ahead a little bit. We could have done a better job,” Mason said of the running game.

KU had 20 assists against 17 turnovers.

Kansas had less encouraging numbers at the foul line, where the Jayhawks hit 16 of 32 free throws.

“I’m going to attribute it to lack of practice and first-game nerves for sure,” coach Bill Self said. “We were awful from the line. We could have scored quite a few points if we’d have made our free throws. That’s on me. We’ve got to spend more time and work on it and drill it.”
