New Mexico rallies past Kansas baseball

— Kansas University scored four runs in the first three innings combined, but New Mexico scored five in the eighth alone in a 10-4 Lobos baseball victory on Wednesday at Lobo Field.

KU (14-7) scored two in the first and two more in the third for a 4-0 lead, but UNM (14-7-1) answered with two in the fourth, three in the fifth and five insurance runs scored in the eighth.

Kansas freshman Jon Hander made his first career start and surrendered two runs off four hits with a pair of walks in 41⁄3 innings. Junior Taylor Rappaport (0-1) took the loss after giving up three runs off three hits over two-thirds of an inning.

The Lobos also roughed up KU closer Jordan Piché, who gave up five earned runs off five hits over just one inning.

New Mexico swept the two-game midweek nonconference series.
