KU thrower 6th, Ottawa alum 9th at World Junior Championships

? Kansas University thrower Mitchell Cooper earned a sixth-place finish in the discus on Saturday at the IAFF World Junior Championships.

Cooper, a KU sophomore from Queensland, Australia, hit his winning mark of 61.77 meters — a career best — on his final attempt of the day.

Ottawa High product Kord Ferguson placed ninth in the same event. Ferguson, a Wichita State signee, hit a top mark of 59.54 meters.
