Jayhawks land commitment from 2014 defensive end Daniel Wise

Just hours before the Jayhawks usher in the latest crop of promising prospects, Daniel Wise, a 6-foot-2, 244-pound defensive end from Hebron High in Lewisville, Texas, gave an oral commitment to Kansas University football coach Charlie Weis and the Jayhawks.

Wise, a two-star prospect who made an official visit to KU last fall, had offers from Colorado, Louisiana Tech, Missouri and Texas Tech. According to Jon Kirby of, he committed to Kansas on Thursday night and canceled an upcoming recruiting visit to Missouri.

Wise becomes the 14th commitment in the current class, leaving KU with room to add up to 12 more.

Three of the 14 commitments — defensive backs Ronnie Davis and Anthony Smithson, along with offensive lineman Keyon Haughton — signed with KU at the midyear signing date in December and will report to campus in time for the spring semester.

Signing day for the rest of the class is Feb. 5.

Welcome. Like a few more stars so we will see.

He's got a decent offer list for a 2 guy though. 4 BCS schools with Baylor and OSU also showing interest is not bad for a 2 star kid.

That's all the stars I need to see. Wise is one of my favorites already ...

Definitely "Wise" if he picked KU over SEC team Mizzou...

Best part of the story is canceling Misery.

Stars are not everything.. He could be from a small school that doesn't get much exposure... The fact that he had Mizzou and Tech offer means he must be decent... Congrats and welcome to the fam

Hebron High in Lewisville is not some obscure, outback place. Mainstream stuff in North Dallas.

What does "just hours before ushering in the next batch of prospects" mean?

Several prospects in town making visit, attending basketball game vs. Oklahoma State in Allen Fieldhouse.

yes going by stars worked great for Mack Brown

Good Get! Texas produces D-1 ready athletes. Remember Turner Gill was hired partly because of his Texas ties. Supposedly he was to bring Texas players to KU. Gill failed in that aspect also. Weis would be wise to recruit strictly out of TX.

I am hoping we get a bunch of guys to help both sides of the line. Any info on who we are currently targeting? Beyond JUCO guys because we got that update recently.

Just remember, a lot of KU's former players, who are playing in the NFL this year, were 2 and 3 star athletes. Like old Switzer use to say, It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog"!
