KANSAS 75, GEORGETOWN 70

Box score

— Kansas University freshman Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk started in the Jayhawks’ 75-70 road win against Georgetown, but played just five minutes and didn’t score.

“He wasn’t aggressive, didn’t play very well. I put him back in and he threw the ball right to them. It’s nothing negative. I guess that’s what happens when you are playing a 17-year-old kid that should be a high school junior,” KU coach Bill Self said. “To me he’s as good an NBA prospect as we have. If you are going to grade him out at age 21, he’s going to grade out pretty high. I didn’t think tonight was going to be his night so that’s why we didn’t play him.”

Started right after the article at cbssports.com saying he was our best long term prospect. Hopefully, the attention did not go to his head.

Probably started when he saw the brick wall named Smith. He's gotten better every year.

This is a scrappy bunch of Jayhawks. Fun to watch and getting better.

Fox sports is even less objective than their news crew. Wonder if they can be more even handed during conference play.

Fox Sports 1 has TV contracts with the Big East, so they're paid to honk Big East teams. And save us your BS about Fox News not being objective. You want news biased in favor of left-wing causes, go get brainwashed by MSNBC.

Aaron Paisley 6 years, 10 months ago

Because Fox News is the only biased news channel out there. Fox News and MSNBC are two of the biggest reasons why this country has become more and more divided.

Rodney Crain 6 years, 10 months ago

Aaron, very well said. The Fox scroll at the end of a news broadcast noting all the errors they have made in like 30 minutes of on air time has to be a huge feather in their cap. Fox should just call themselves a reality TV network and be done with it. Maybe Kim Kardashian could host?

Svi will be fine, he has great fundamentals and a good head on his shoulders. He might just be hitting a wall with all the playing he has done since training for the U18 Worlds. I am not concerned at all about him.

Hope Bill "Big East" Rafftery never calls another KU game - ever.

Bryce Landon 6 years, 10 months ago

As I said above, Fox Sports 1 has a TV contract to cover the Big East, so they are getting paid to hype Big East teams. That's the only reason Bill Rafftery was calling a KU game, b/c he knows the Big East and works for FS-1's Big East sportscasting team.

Bryce- Nice!!!

Nancy- I kind of liked Raferty. I love his alliteration with adjectives. "Tough at the Tin" being one example... To each his own, I suppose

Scott MacWilliams 6 years, 10 months ago

That was a great game, but I had a hard time listening to it for two reasons. Raftery needs to listen to himself sometimes to hear how doofus he sounds, and it sounded like they had mics on the crowd in there.

There was just a constant din, overpowering the announcers mics all the time. I noticed once when they did a cutaway to the band playing with a live camera right in front of a drummer, the mic was on. Any other network will not do that. As far as I could tell, every camera in the gym had their mics on all night and the sound was fed live into the broadcast. Audio garbage. I guess that's Fox style, supposedly more exciting... NOT!

RJ King 6 years, 10 months ago

The cameras don't have mics. Mics are placed at a variety of locations. Those that capture the crowd noise are called "nats," as in natural sound (as opposed to the talent). The audio guy controls the sound from the truck, and it's the producer's job to let him know if he needs to make adjustments. The exec producer (likely watching from the studio - or at home at that hour) can also inform the truck if the sound is off. Every network and/or producer has their own style, or maybe something was just off with the feed that they couldn't fix.
