Six Kansas University players were named to the All-Big 12 volleyball teams, and two Jayhawks earned league player-of-the-week honors Monday.

KU senior outside hitter Chelsea Albers earned her second straight All-Big 12 first-team selection, and sophomore middle blocker Tayler Soucie made the first team for the first time. Senior Sara McClinton, junior outside hitter Tiana Dockery and freshman setter Ainise Havili earned honorable mention.

Havili and Kelsie Payne were named to the all-freshman team.

Kansas, which tied Oklahoma and Iowa State for second in the Big 12, led the league with six all-league honorees. Champion Texas and OU each had four.

“Just as our response has been when individual awards come our way throughout the season, it is the same with these,” KU coach Ray Bechard said. “We are happy for the individuals that got honored, but we know it’s a reflection of another really, really outstanding year that our team had. We appreciate each of them and we see it every day from everyone on this team. We don’t get to vote for it, but other coaches in the league are seeing what we see on a daily basis.”

Additionally, Havili was named the league’s freshman of the week and Soucie defensive player of the week after the Jayhawks locked up their runner-up league finish with a comeback victory Saturday over Oklahoma.

Kansas will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament Friday and Saturday in Topeka.

KU will meet Arkansas-Little Rock at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Expocentre. Oregon State and Creighton will meet at 4 p.m. Friday.

Friday’s winners will play at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Expocentre.
