Game Balls and Gassers: South Dakota

Game Balls

Walk-on kicker Matthew Wyman, who drilled a 45-yard attempt in the second half and also was perfect on extra points.

Sophomore running back Darrian Miller, who, after gaining just three yards on his first two carries, finished with 72 yards on 14 carries.

Gassers

Keba Agostinho, whose block in the back negated a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown by fellow defensive lineman Keon Stowers.

Tight end Jimmay Mundine, who kicked off his promising junior campaign with a pair of drops early and never got on track.

Gassers: The entire KU coaching staff for an incredibly sloppy football team.

Game Balls: No game balls tonight fellas. That was as ugly as a KSU cheerleader.

While there was contact on K Agostinho's illegal block penalty, the contact was incidental and did not impede the USD defender's progress.

You can't say the entire team. The fact that we kicked a 45 yard FG is proof of one area we have improved 100%. It wasn't pretty, especially early but it's obvious our offense is better than than last year.

Conner Embree, Debbie Downfisher...I thought the play calling was great (other than taking that holding penalty). The execution, especially from the WR and DL, was not so great at all, on the other hand. The worst gasser was the damn weather, horrible, I bet. 97 degrees at friggin kickoff @ 6pm...mad brutal.

I can't believe after what our program has been through the last couple of years that people bitch about a win. Dude really? 1-0 enjoy it brother. Sat night be happy.

This guy gets what I've been saying. A win is a freakin win. We have to take it week by week and stay positive. Too many of you posters are just finding a reason to whine and complain. Get over your ignorance already. Be happy that you're able to watch the game and be a fan. And if we win, hell, be even happier.

Kumbayah. Sloppy wins over FBS schools don't make me happy. However, I will follow your approach from now on and simply lower the bar of expectations so that I can always be happy. Is Prairie View A&M ready for a dogfight? How about the sprint football team at Army? I bet we could beat both of those teams too.

Dude, it is not all about you and your happiness. I have noted your comments all over this board seem to be on balance very negative. You don't sound like a KU fan to me, more like a needling K-State fan.

That's the loser mentality that Weis has been talking about getting rid of. Yes, KU won, but that's not an effort that will win very many games and the players should not be satisfied with how they played last night. Some of the issues are typical first game issues and should be fixed for next week, but there were some issues that will be problems all year long for KU that need to be addressed in order for KU to start taking more steps forward instead of finishing in the cellar of the Big 12 for a 5th straight year.

Sometimes it's better to just break a losing streak no matter how its done. We didn't look pretty, but there are things to be proud of that at least we know the team is getting better.

The bad taste of being a loser is out at the moment. Next Saturday, we need to believe things will improve and sloppy areas can be fixed. Keep chopping wood.

We have matched our win total from last year; we can't do any worse than last year.

I'll take an ugly win over an ugly loss any day of the week!

They didn't miss it. The called an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

It was offset by James Sims' (our team captain) own unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for retaliation.

James should know by now that the retaliation ALWAYS draws a flag. Dumb.

Yeah but you still can't throw (MULTIPLE) punches and not get ejected.

Apparently you can throw multiple punches and not get ejected!!!

Those refs were pretty bad. A lot of blown calls, the most evident is the one you mentioned.

I was waiting for the BS that should have gotten SD #37 ejected to fire up KU beyond anything expected. Didn't seem to. Retaliating and drawing the flag isn't smart, but I understand defending your teammates. Someone on the O side of KU should have made it a point the next play #37 was in was to stick there helmet so far in his ear hole he'd need emergency surgery to remove it, even HS players know this. I still recall watching a HS kid pull that crap #37 did in a game. Well, the kid happened to be the teams punt returner, and next time he was preparing for a punt return, he called for a fair catch, and guess what, his opponents didn't forget what he did and while the kid was looking up waiting for the ball to come down he got drilled with a helmet under the chin. Dirty? Sure, but eye for an eye and deserved every bit of it.

Yeah that kid should have been ejected no doubt! Love the chin helmet!

Totally disagree. If a team is in a hostile environment and the refs appear to be intimidated or flat out biased, you have to stick to your game plan. Evening the scores is a distraction to what you are trying to do on the field. The scoreboard is the only score that matters. We don't want or need players or coaches who encourage dirty play, eye for an eye. That will always lead the team to be even worse on the field, off the field, in the classroom. Our guys need to be disciplined and let the coaches address dirty hits, etc. with the officials, opposing coaches, thru the media or however they see fit.

Biggest Gasser: AD Zenger for negotiating a contract that left a large number of KU fans in the KC Metro area without a TV broadcast, ESPN3 blacked out and no local radio broadcast. Many of us had to listen to the game via a streamed radio broadcast that was delayed 30 seconds.

Little gasser: The LJW web broadcast that would not refresh and had frequent Internal Server Errors, likely a result of being the only resource for many fans.

I was unable to find KU game on DirecTv. Anyone have suggestions?

0

KatnissHawk 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Good luck with that. KU didn't think it had enuf fans to include DirecTV in the process. You're on the sidelines with me and many many others.

At least we have RED ZONE! Hehe

I listened to the student radio KJHK. Not the most polishedl announcers but they do okay.

South Dakota is not a Big 12 team for sure. However that does not mean they stink. They are a solid football team. Many FCS teams are. Dont believe me...ask K State!!!
