Jarmoc reaches milestone as KU volleyball defeats UMKC

? Kansas University middle blocker Caroline Jarmoc needed just four kills on Tuesday night at UMKC to total 1,000 kills in her KU career.

Jarmoc, a redshirt senior, tallied a match-high 19 kills to go along with 10 blocks, and the Jayhawks defeated the Kangaroos, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21.

Kansas (3-1) ran out to early leads in the first set, 7-0 and 13-5, before Jarmoc’s milestone kill put the Jayhawks up, 17-11. KU closed out the set, 25-17.

The ‘Roos rallied in a defensive-focused second set, holding the Jayhawks to a .056 hitting mark and sealing the set with a block, 25-23. The two teams battled back and forth through the next two sets, but KU wrapped up the match, 25-22, 25-21, with big plays from senior outside hitter Catherine Carmichael (12 kills, seven blocks) and senior setter Erin McNorton (50 assists, 11 digs).

KU junior outside hitter Chelsea Albers (15 kills, 16 digs) and senior libero Brianne Riley (15 digs) also contributed for the Jayhawks.

Kansas will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. on Thursday to face Arkansas. The Jayhawks will return home on Saturday to open their home schedule with a second match against the Razorbacks, at 1 p.m. at Horejsi Center.
