Terry Nooner leaving KU women for ’Bama

Former Kansas University basketball guard Terry Nooner has been hired as assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Alabama, Crimson Tide coach Kristy Curry has announced.

Curry worked the past seven seasons as head coach at Texas Tech. Nooner worked last season as an assistant on Bonnie Henrickson’s KU staff.

Nooner, a former guard and team captain for the KU men’s team from 1997-2000, helped KU to a 20-14 overall record in 2012-13 while advancing to the fourth NCAA Sweet 16 in program history and its first in back-to-back seasons. He came to KU after working as an assistant for one year at Southern Illinois.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Nooner coached high school and AAU basketball for seven years in the Kansas City area. In addition, he served as president of KC Pro Am Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides basketball instruction, from 2007-11 and also worked at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City as a personal basketball instructor from 2006-11. Nooner’s past clients include Chauncey Billups of the L.A. Clippers and former NBA players Tyronn Lue and Billy Thomas, in addition to several college players.

Nooner earned two degrees from Kansas, including a bachelor’s degree in African and African American studies, which he earned in 2000, and a master’s degree in sports administration that he finished two years later.

He and his wife, Tracy, have one daughter, Tarynn.

“Enjoyed this past year working at my Alma Mater....Forever a JAYHAWK and excited about this new chapter and joining the University of Alabama family! #RollTide,” Nooner wrote Thursday on facebook.

As a non-follower of the women's program, I find it interesting that they went 20-14 and ended up in the Sweet Sixteen in 2012-13. Other than that, this artice held no particular interest other than as a resume detailing the long and winding road of positions for Terry Nooner. Maybe this serves to show other "role-players" who wore the Crimson and Blue that there is work out there if you really want it.

No surprise really. For his family, this job puts him in a more traditional setting working with a staff of similar interests.

Wow did anyone tell him Curry did NOTHING at Tech(Purdue was already good when she got there and Purdue is a pretty easy school to win in womens hoops). Bama has also been trying to be good in WBB for a quite a few years and no success. Bonnie will be gone soon enuff and he can come back.

Learn to live with Bonnie dont think SZ has the will and guts to dismiss her. Let the drama continue.
