— Kansas University junior Jessica Maroszek placed seventh with a school-record performance in the discus on the final day of the 2013 USA Track & Field Championships on Sunday.

Maroszek threw a personal- and school-best 58.01 meters (190 feet, 4 inches) on her first try and was unable to improve on it.

Also Sunday, KU’s Paris Daniels just missed a spot in the finals of the 200 meters. She placed 12th overall in 23.13 seconds in the semifinals and failed to advance.

That is pretty damn impressive -- a personal and school best! I know too often we get caught up in winning and losing, but to compete at such a high level and to put in a personal and team record when it counts has got to feel great. Congrats Jessica!
