KU women’s track begins bid for NCAA Outdoor title today


Kansas University’s top-ranked women’s track and field team and No. 15 men’s team will compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships today in Eugene, Ore.

The KU women, runners-up at the NCAA indoor meet, will compete in 13 events. The Jayhawks will be led by Andrea Geubelle (No. 2 seed in triple jump, fourth-seed in long jump), Natalia Bartnovskaya (No. 2 seed, pole vault), Alena Krecyhk (No. 3 seed, hammer throw), and the third-seeded 4x100 relay team of Paris Daniels, Diamond Dixon, Denesha Morris and Tianna Valentine.

Michael Stigler (No. 2 seed, 400 hurdles) and Kyle Clemons (No. 3 seed, 400) lead the KU men, who qualified seven entries for the meet.

KU Women lead after day one with 17 points. Several teams tied for second with 10. Andrea Geubelle got second in the long jump, Alena Krechyk got 3rd in the Hammer Throw, and Heather Bergmann got 6th in the Javelin.
