Sounds about right to me. Although if we don't start playing better on the offensive end, we won't be #2 for long. Also good to see Wichita State in the top 25 again. They had a huge win this weekend.

If my math is correct, there are three Division I teams in the state of Kansas and all are ranked. Not sure if any other state can say that.
1stnamemistermiddlenameperiod 3 months, 4 weeks ago
A bunch with two, Kansas is the only with three.
kesmithstl1 3 months, 4 weeks ago
The Hoosier State with Indiana, Butler, and Notre Dame.

Evansville, Ball St, Indiana St just off the top of my head.

And all three teams are ahead of Mizzery...
FearlessJayhawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Being number one doesn't mean a thing. Just give me a number one seed in March.
jhawkgal4 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Not really. Success in the tourney is the biggest factor. No one remembers who was number one back in January, nor do they care. They want a banner & a trophy.
RockChalkCaliHawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
What's up with people mis-reading all of these posts today? He said in April after the tournament is over.. Meaning the team who wins the championship is number 1 in the final poll of the season.
wissoxfan83 3 months, 4 weeks ago
The #1 seed increases the likelihood that you'll be in Atlanta playing for that championship.
Boouk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I don't care about the seed either. Just hope KU gets the best draw and takes advantage.
jhawkgal4 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I'd certainly rather we not be number one. Quite frankly, I was fine with the #4 spot. The closer to #1 you get, the hungrier opponents are to beat you.
GoHawkYourself 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Whether #1 or #10, we're always #1 in the big 12 during conference play so I don't think it matters much.
jhawkgal4 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Not loser mentality, I just don't enjoy having a target on our backs. But what a quality comment, thanks.
KUfaninPA 3 months, 3 weeks ago
That's a capital "l" and where's your period?
kranny 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I think that getting a number one seed is dependent on being a top five team throughout the year. Being number one lets you know that the bar has been set and to stay there you'd better bring it every game. I like being number one.
nuleafjhawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I don't care where we're ranked right now - just beat the living crap out of K-State tomorrow and I'll be happy.
nuleafjhawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
lol - does it say " 90 % of the time " on the back ??
kufaninmo 3 months, 4 weeks ago
it should say "90% of the time, we beat k-state all the time"
KGphoto 3 months, 3 weeks ago
LOL! But if anybody makes the shirt, make sure it's "every time".

Awesome, Lifelong! RCJH
CaliHawk33 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I think when you are ranked anywhere in the top 5 you have an x on your back. #1, #2, #3... I don't think it matters it most likely means you are the best team in your conference either way. Teams and fans will get up to play Kansas, UNC, Duke, etc. pretty much regardless of ranking.
ralster 3 months, 4 weeks ago
If taking opponents best shots doesnt prepare us for deep Tourney runs, I dont know what else will.
nuleafjhawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Exactly. The same way that other Ag schools get up for K-State when it comes to Livestock Judging and hybrid wheat growing.
ralster 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Oh, and where the F is that stupid Kentucky troll, BBall2012????? Fell off some cliff? (rankings cliff, eh?). Where y'at? SmallBlueMildPussy(Cat)?
truehawk93 3 months, 4 weeks ago
He's too busy chewing his foot from the team that was going to "REPEAT" - haha Now they're preparing for next yr's squad to be NC. UK fans are the most fair weather fans I know. Unless their team is winning and has a shot at NC, they are fickle.

Andy Katz and ESPN are picking us to lose tomorrow.. come on boys, let's get this offensive slump busted!
srj 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Guessing KSU will be a couple or points favored.
PwopellewCap 3 months, 4 weeks ago
This is the same Andy Katz who has us ranked #1 last week....pick a lane.
truehawk93 3 months, 4 weeks ago
It's all part of his job. He is a hype master deluxe. This is the one who goes to the WH during March Madness and gets obama's brackets. We all look forward to Andy going to the WH and spending time with obama.
Go Andy and Rock Chalk

With the exception of 2008, KU always plays its worst game of the season as a 1 seed. I've always been more comfortable being a 2 seed and under the radar like last year. Below are some of our losses as a 1 seed:
1986 - lost to Duke in Final Four. Danny fouled out and had just 4 points (at least we got there, but with today's video/clock rules....we may not have made it due to the clock malfunction vs. Michigan State in the Sweet 16)
1992 - lost to UTEP in 2nd round 1995 - lost to Virginia in Sweet 16 in KC 1997 - lost to Arizona in Sweet 16 1998 - lost to Rhode Island in 2nd round 2002 - lost to Maryland by 9 (we were down 20 at one point) in Final Four after being up 11 early
2007 - lost to UCLA in Elite 8 68-55 (LOTS of missed bunnnies for us) 2010 - lost to Northern Iowa in 2nd round 2011 - lost to VCU in Elite 8 by ten points. 2 of 23 from 3 range.
tizzlhawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
However the only time we've won a championship in the past twenty years, we were a number one seed.
ralster 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Self would say rankings matter at tourney-seeding time. That and collecting signature wins along the way, and not losing to a dumpster team (ie, dont give them a signature win). Well the law-of-avg-gods might come around, as we are due for an offensive explosion. Would love to blow up that Craptogon.

I wonder if Kansas State is printing memorial sports pages and T-shirts to sell before the game showing them favored by the point spread over Kansas?? :)
Raydude 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Dear Staff Reports: You should mention our good neighbor, Wichita State University. With all major Kansas D1 schools ranked, kudo's to all.
jhawkrulz 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Why, everyone outside of the state of Kansas wouldn't know the game occurred.
Raydude 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Absolutely! We play 'American', and whoever....guarantee full house for WSU and lots of gossip pre and post.....I know the public would love it...however the outcome.
PwopellewCap 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Explain to me how Michigan who was ranked lower than us last week and beat a hugely overrated Minnesota team jumps over us despite us smoking Baylor and then Texas.....The AP writers must be idiots...
JayDogger 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Our margin over Michigan last week was razor thin.
RockkChalkk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Michigan lost to OSU too who KU beat by 8 pts. Suprised to see them higher in that poll too.
KULA 3 months, 3 weeks ago
I have NEVER seen a seen a top five team get leapfrogged in a weekly poll without losing a game. Just goes to show what a Big 10-Big East-ACC bias the AP writers have.

I can't wait for tomorrow so we can expose the most over-rated team in America. By 9:00 pm tomorrow night the purple fans will forever refer to their little gymnasium as the Octagon of Gloom.

I posted this earlier, but Bruce Weber is, to say the least, not a favorite of HCBS. Compared to Weber, Bill would have Scott Drew be a godfather to one of his children.
1] When Weber took over at Illinois, he claimed none of Bill's kids could play ball and he, himself taught them to be NCAA contenders.
2] Wouldn't schedule Kansas for love nor money.
3] Held a mock funeral to "bury" the memory of the Self era at Illinois.
4] Oh, by the way, Weber's success rating after Bill's kids graduated.....like a ski slope - all down hill!!!!!!!
nuleafjhawk 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I'm happy to say now that Frank Martin is gone - and Misswho is gone, I can direct all my ill will towards the Flint Hills. (Yeah, I actually kinda liked Frank a little).
When KSU hired Weber, they locked in my new Big 12 most hated team vote. And I usually reserve those for good teams......
ralster 3 months, 4 weeks ago
I put Weber in slot #2 behind Scot Drewche of Faylor. I dont mind any other BigXII coach. And I actually respect Hoiberg and Kruger

A call to arms, boys. K-State is on a winning streak, nationally ranked, and primed for the upset. The stars are in line for them to make the dream come true.
Crush that dream. Show no mercy. Rock Chalk.

Our point guard play, our on ball defense, and production at the 4 spot all need to dramatically improve in order for Kansas to truly deserve the number 2 ranking.

Fact we have a better record in their house then they do. Fact we have a better record in their house then we do at AFH.
I wonder which assistant is the scout for the kitty kats, I think that has something to do with how we play offensively, and expecially defensively.
milwaukeeJAYHAWK 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Is good to temper high rankings with realistic qualms about overconfidence in March.....
....BUT it doesn't hurt recruiting to be mentioned at the top all the time, so I'll take #1 or 2 or 3 any day of the week.
Great job, Hawks!

HEY!! WHERE THE XXX IS north carolina and roy williams? Don't they deserve at least a vote......? or MAYBE THEY GET AN OBJECTIVE....WHAT THEY DESERVE???
Maybe we get Bill Self, Dr. Zenger, HCCW, Diamond Dixon and lots of Wins, Rankings, Olympic Gold Medals, and Positive PR?

In 1964-65 KU KSU and Wichita were all three ranked according to the Stars and Stripes that I was reading in Viet Nam at the time. I like it a lot better here in Kansas. Rock Chaulk Jayhawk, beat KSU! And they did it one more time in the house of Doom! K State should resume playing in Ahern, just when KU comes to Manhattan.
