KU football player cited for battery

A junior Kansas University football player was cited for battery in an early-morning incident Sunday at Tonic, 728 Massachusetts St., according to municipal court records.

Benjamin D. Heeney, 20, Hutchinson, faces one misdemeanor charge alleging he battered employees at the downtown club after they asked him to leave. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 8. In 2011, Heeney was granted diversion in a Douglas County DUI case.
