J-W’s Tom Keegan to participate in mock selection

Twenty media members from across the country, including Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan, will spend the next two days in Indianapolis serving on a mock NCAA Tournament selection committee.

The media members, grouped in 10 pairings with each pairing taking the place of an actual committee member, will go through the same procedure for selecting the tournament field and seeding it as the actual committee.

Keegan and Mike Waters of the Syracuse Post-Dispatch will represent Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman.

Beginning this afternoon, Keegan will blog on KUSports.com throughout the process.

Seems a bit early. A lot can happen in the next month.

Like Nerlens Noe going down with an ACL injury.

I suspect it's to indoctrinate the media into the process so they can more objectively and accurately report during the real process.

This is an attempt to compare the mock seedings of those that don't know what they are doing with the real seedings of those that don't know what they are doing. :-)

This will rival any comedy act ever devised by mankind: it will be akin to Pee Wee Herman playing the real life role of Albert Einstien, or of Rosanne Bar playing the real life role of Marilyn Monroe.

How about Jaybate playing the real life role of a journalist?

All fiction, no malice :)

Twenty journalists from across the country getting together to poke donuts down their face and place teams in a tournament bracket in mid February. Sounds reasonable and necessary.

This has been done for several years now. The objective is to familiarize journalists with the selection process so they will criticize it less. The actual choices made are not intended to have any value.

Who's paying for this nutty boondoggle? No private enterprise should follow the example of government waste.

Keegan better give us a mock number one seed or I'm gonna be pissed!! Might as well give all Big 12 teams 1-3 seeds while we're at it.

What's to figure out. Just a bunch of people trying to figure out the best match up for TV ratings and storylines for newspapers. Million dollars says we are paired in the same bracket as Muzzou, UNC, or UK.

As long as we're not with Bucknell, Bradley, UNI, or VCU.

I bet Bill Self and staff wouldn't mind a shot at redemption against any of those teams.

And I thought Joe Lunardi was ridiculous

So are they saying that two sports reporters are equivalent to one member of the committee. There is the media again overhyping themselves.

The seedlings are out now for March Madness:

  1. Asparagus

  3. Snap peas

I misread the headline of this article. I thought its aim was to MOCK Keegan for his antics and shenanigans. Next time I'll make sure to read the entire context of the article ;-)

What's the point. Sounds like a waste of time and money.
