I'll take that ... it's kind of like a correction in the market.

No worries, boys, let's right the ship tonight and take care of KSU. As the saying goes, one game at a time. RCJHKU!!!

!4th....that might be the lowest ranking we've had since the Nick Bradford/Chrisitan Moody days. Gee, 2 to 5 to 14...looks like the stock market of December, 2008.

Well, that takes the target off our back..or at least reduces it somewhat.

Let's start the second season with an eight game conference winning streak starting tonight!!!

Bradford graduated in 2000.....Moody in 2005.....

KU was unranked for quite a while during the 2008-09 season.

liljayhawker15 3 months, 1 week ago

We were ranked lower at the beginning of last season. I want to say somewhere around 16-18 range. Can't quite remember. Today is shaping up to be a great day so send ksu home with another loss at Allen Fieldhouse. As always my friends, Rock Chalk!

KSU game pivotal to KU's chances of staying in the Big 12 Championship race. Expect big turnaround in performance tonight as KU's game seems to be coming back. Should EJ come out of his funk and Ellis become productive, the ship will be righted.

This is about where this team should have been all along. KU just isn't the darlings this year. Don't get your hopes up, this is a reloading year. Maybe, just maybe, a sweet sixteen.

texashawk10 3 months, 1 week ago

Except for the fact that we have seen this team firing on all cylinders and know what they are capable of doing because they steamrolled some tournament quality opponents in December. That's why there is the frustration with this team now because we've all seen what this team is capable of.

I would have agreed with you totally at the beginning of the season. However; I went to the roster on the web site after the OU loss and did a sort by class and it scarred the heck out of me. When these seniors leave and McLemore leaves as expected what is left is freighting. There is not a player that could have started on some of our recent teams. The best player and really only player I still hold out hope for is Ellis. The rest are at best role players. There is just not talent of a level to be competitive on the national stage. That hurts to say but that is the how I see the scene next year. Limited returning talent and a bunch of unproven although hopefully talented freshmen. Looking at this roster my question is not on the on court coaching but what in the heck caused the recruiting failures the past 3 years.

Disagree-

Ranking the players coming back: 1) Ellis - with a little more bulk and an extra year (remember these guys go to camps and get better over the summer too), he'll be a legit starter. 2) Tharpe - I am convinced he still has a major upside, and think he has probably been held back by digging out of EJs holes (he's not in the game w/the starters a lot of times). A legit starting PG. 3) Traylor - he reminds me of Richard Scott. If he's not a starter, he's giving them solid bench minutes/size inside. I have liked some of his moves this year in his limited minutes. 4) AW III - he can shoot it, and that helps make up for a lot on Defense, at which he'll get better. 5) Manning - I think he'll turn into the next Morningstar. That could either be good (real talent) or bad (Self will overplay him). 6) Rio - Anyone seen EJ as a Freshman? Reminds me of Rio. He'll be a solid back-up.

You could start 5 of those 6, and with reasonable recruits (and we have some that will start) you'd have a Top 25 team. W/the recruits we have coming in, I'm really excited - mainly because Self can't overplay his seniors and bench his newcomers next year - they're all gonna get to play.

I sincerely hope you are correct and I am overly pessimistic. I just do not see the potential (with the absolute exception of Perry Ellis) of the remaining players. I do hope some of the incoming freshmen can contribute. I think especially during the recent slump if those players had the skill set to play and develop they would have been given the opportunity. When given the chance most had to be pulled quickly for various reasons. Self will make the best out of the available talent I have no doubt. My concern is the talent level in the recruiting process for that 3 year period. Fortunately that ship appears to have made some corrections with the class next year. Again I really do hope your optimism shows up on the court next year. Just kick the purple this evening. I do not want to see them celebrating in The Phog.

I feel a victory brewing! All the K-Staters I know have been very arrogant this weekend! When was the last time KSU was ranked higher than KU? This is good motivation for us! Come on guy's, lets play to your potential and send them back to Manhattan with a loss! Now that they are ranked higher than us, let's just see how well KSU does with a bullseye on their back!

0

jhawkrulz 3 months, 1 week ago

I disagree, KU still has the bullseye...always does when it comes to basketball.

These ratings do not matter . What matters is at the end of the season and who brings home the trophies.

These ratings represent opinions and where gamblers might want to place bets = a lot like Wall Street. As we can see game results and these polls often do not match up.

This team can beat any team in the country. I feel it doesn't matter to me in were we end up in the ncaa's, because we can beat any team as long as we can get back on track in get better mentally and emotionally. KU team still has the physical tools, they have not lost that. ROCK CHALK!

Being in the top 5 is the kiss of death. 5 of the previous top 7 teams, including the top 3, lost last week. Let's hope KU wins tonight, regains the lead in the conference (would own the tie breaker) and order is restored in the land of Basketball.

0

moorobs5 3 months, 1 week ago

No worries. I thought it might be lower. Weird being ranked lower than K-State though.

1

jayhawkinnc 3 months, 1 week ago

We'll win tonight. I guarantee it. There's no way we lose at home to KSU with conference title implications on the line. The 3 game skid ends tonight. ROCK CHALK!!

0

jgkojak 3 months, 1 week ago

Bottom line - let's say KU is a 4 seed (I think we'll win a few more and be a 3 seed) -

You're a #1 seed coming into the Sweet 16... you REALLY want to play this Kansas team?

No.

I'd like to see us vs. Duke (I think they're as soft as we are and Withey > Plumlee) or Michigan (they're all 3 pt shot... a recipe for an early tourney exit for a higher seed).

And I think if we were to make it past THAT game... I'd put money on us in the Elite 8.

Aw shucks, according to the above advertisement, 3 people have unfriended me. I will never unfriend my Jayhawks though - win or lose. Rock Chalk.

Quoting the article "In the AP poll, Kansas State is the highest-ranked Big 12 team, coming in at 10th. Oklahoma State is the only other league team in the poll (17th)."

BEST. MOTIVATION. EVER.
