? Chris Gilbert claimed a share of medalist honors and helped Kansas University hold off a furious charge from tournament-host Iowa to win the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational by a stroke on Sunday at Finkbine Golf Course.

It was the Jayhawks’ first men’s golf team title since 2010.

Gilbert shot 72-68-71-111 on the par-72 course to share medalist honors with Iowa’s Steven Ihm.

Kansas shot 286-290-291-867 to hold off Iowa (294-290-284-868).

“It doesn’t get any better — to win as an individual and as a team,” Gilbert said. “We all played well and got our first win this year. This week, we finally had all five scorers play well. We’ve all have been working hard and have been playing in conditions like these.”

Other KU results: Stan Gautier, third, 67-72-73-212; Alex Gutesha, tied for 11th, 73-74-73-220; Ryley Haas, tied for 32nd, 74-76-76-226; and Paul Harris, tied for 49th, 78-79-74-231.

KU will play April 22-24 at the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson.
