KU-KSU football to kick off at 11 a.m. on Oct. 6

The Kansas-Kansas State football game will start at 11 a.m. on Oct. 6 in Manhattan and will be televised on FX, the Big 12 announced Monday morning.

Both KU and KSU will be making their second appearance of the season on FX, as the Jayhawks fell to TCU, 20-6, in their first game on the network this year.

Both teams are on bye this week.

Dayne Crist has his first turnover at 11:06, and the game will be over at 11:38.

You're being much too generous. Game will be over by 11:20.

clevelandjayhawker 7 months, 4 weeks ago

wonder what the line will be for this one....+27?

0

VaJay 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Based on the Sagarin ratings, you're pretty close. Probably will be around 24. It's also not good that they have two weeks to prepare for us as well.

0

NikeCortez 7 months, 4 weeks ago

K-State will be preparing for ISU for the next 2 weeks.

BrianCh 7 months, 3 weeks ago

K-State really could be caught looking ahead -- they've had close games with ISU every year.

Take KSU! Snyder always runs it up. Final score 54-17

Coffee and football. The great Pacific timezone tradition.

2

omari1911 7 months, 4 weeks ago

My thought, exactly, LA. My wife hates KU football games that start this early as it gives me more of the day to be sullen when we do something like meltdown in the 4th.

1

gorilla10 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Sounds like a good day to sleep in.....and I mean into the early afternoon hours! KSU is going to do whatever they want against us! I just hope we can at least keep it competitive. KU football is in a frustrating state. Everyone wants to win badly but the ingrediants just aren't there this season. Every game this season could've had different outcomes based on a few key playes that weren't made. KU IS IMPROVING just not in the win column. Give it another year or two and I have confidence that Weis will get the players he needs to make KU successful. Look for Heaps senior year to be a good one......meaning 5-6 wins!!!

0

danmoore 7 months, 4 weeks ago

I agree. And hopefully Snyder will retire in a year or two.

0

BrianCh 7 months, 3 weeks ago

I'm not sure that Snyder will retire anytime soon. He seems like my brother -- a workaholic who will probably die before he stops working.

0

741hawk 7 months, 4 weeks ago

I will watch the game with interest. I will want to see how each team is prepared. Does KSU take this one for granted . . . no matter what Snyder says? Will Weis make significant changes to the offense? How will the defense play against a highly ranked team? (Will they be assignment sound?) If the 'Hawks get way behind, will they quit or will they NOT quit? If the passing game is not working, will Weis be willing to try something other than what he is comfortable with (passing)?

It's a long road ahead. Better find something of interest for the next few years other than just W's and L's.

Note: Ernie from Colby, please ID yourself!

lcjayhawk 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Go back through the years and look at the scores. If history is an indicator, KSU won't take this game for granted (Old Man River won't let them), and we will get beat handily. Sad but true.

swunruhawk 7 months, 4 weeks ago

KSU beat VERY overrated OU and Miami teams. The Cats are good but not that good. HCCW just may find a way to get a win in Manhattan. That's why they play the games.

1

trojanhawk 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Did you watch either of those games? We'll be lucky to score 7 points against their starters with Crist at QB. Abandon the pro style and go to the Wildcat full time and we might score a couple times.

Weis and Campo need time to bring in players who know how to win. It takes time to erase the damage done by Gill. This won't be the year we win a Big 12 game.

0

NikeCortez 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Dude, please tell me you dont drive or vote.

1

Massive 7 months, 3 weeks ago

K-State may lay 60 on the Jayhawks. Miami is 3-1 and OU will rebound nicely. KU may get shutout.

0

clevelandjayhawker 7 months, 4 weeks ago

would be fun if we could pull a win (and vandy beat missery too)

0

ralster 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Keep sawin' wood...building something reliable and solid takes time + a recruiting pipeline of talent. Barely getting all that started now under Weis (or any new head coach + staff). I like Weis' system he is showing us here...but he needs 1.5-2yrs to show what "his" kids can start to reliably show us. (Also note that at NDame, they didnt need a total rebuild and perhaps Weis didnt get to attack all their underlying issues--thus the true Weis' effect will be much more encompassing and responsible for how KU ftball develops in the next 2-4 yrs).

0

CHEEZIT 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Isn't that what we say about the Chiefs and the Royals every year!!!

0

KGphoto 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Yes, but this isn't an all-profit organization. It's actually possible with KU.

0

KGphoto 7 months, 4 weeks ago

I'm setting the over-under for number of series Matthews gets to run the read-option at 4. I'm hoping WAY over.

It's obvious Weis reads my posts and listens carefully. Why else would he do exactly what I recommended last week, and insert Matthews for a few series of read-optioin? ;P Hey, don't laugh. I didn't see anybody else recommend it. I told my wife I would get to come on here and brag a little, so here it is. I'm a freakin' Jedi Armchair Coach!

This week, Charlie, run the read-option with Matthews 50% of the game. The next game, 75%. Then just use him exclusively and you'll never have to actually "bench" Crist.

A win, win it is. Hhhmf.

National TV at 11am on FX. Too bad it's not Basketball.

Did any of us really think that ku was going to beat ksu this year anyway

I hate 11 AM start times...but on the road and in this rivalry game...it just may help....of course my glass is half full....god help me ...but I'm a believer...I believe in these guys....I think they are getting close to a break out moment....so lets all keep the faith and be positive!

11:00 AM? That is YMCA time.

0

A win seems highly improbable given the disparity in talent. Mangino got blown out his first year against K-State and again his second year but by a lesser margin. In year 3 he came away with a W.

0

VaJay 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Be sure to add a disclaimer - Yes Mangino beat K-State the third year, but it wasn't against Snyder.

0

danmoore 7 months, 4 weeks ago

2004 Snyder was still coach.

0

notabandwagonfan 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Let me get this straight.......the same people predicting a BCS game and 9-10 win seasons are now full of gloom and doom?

0

mvjayhawk 7 months, 4 weeks ago

i''m very glad it's on early....we won't have to sweat the tail kicking all day long.

This is one of Bill Snyder's best teams...they are Sr. laden....and ready to welcome Charlie Weis to the rivalry in a rude way. i think they could beat us bad....real bad...but i don't think it will be like the last couple of years.

it's been frustrating this year to say the least. With play at all from Crist, and a couple of kicking game and defensive plays made, we are 3-1 right now, no doubt about it. but that's what losing programs do, they find a way to NOT get it done.

i agree with was said above. 2014 looks to be the next year we could be decent. this year, Crist had to be the MAN.....and maybe he still will, but the jury is very much still out. i was hoping he could really make a difference...hasn't happened so far.

Our coach is the coach for at least the next five years....so it's HCCW or bust! Go Jayhawks!

0

Massive 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Yes KU could be 3-1. In my eyes they played their best game against TCU.

0

The motorcade of hearses arrives at the KU sideline at noon to carry out the bodies.

0

kellerman411 7 months, 4 weeks ago

You guys talking up KSU are OUT OF YOUR MIND. That was a supremely overrated OU team who still could beat KSU 8 out of 10 times. Good grief, K-State isn't that great. KU will need to play considerably better than they have been playing to have a chance at winning but why does no one believe we will play better? We have 2 weeks to prepare and I think KU comes out and surprises everyone. The talent disparity is not where it usually is between these two programs and if you throw out maybe quarterback play (sorry Dayne) and middle linebacker to a lesser extent (Arthur is a man), I dare say that athetically we are biting at the heels of the Wildcats.

Now what are we gonna do people? Things aren't going our way so do we just quit on the team we spent months preparing to watch? Lets get out and talk the same trash we always do to these worthless Wildcat fans and then when we go over there and smack them, lets walk out of there like it was supposed to happen.

In reference to Keegan's ridiculous article today about how much talent is leaving this year, that was one of the most uninformed articles I've ever seen come out of LJW. KU just got a huge committment from a stud JUCO DE who had offers from LSU and BAMA, also the D-line is getting Mckinney and returns Tavai and Young and company. At linebacker, again we just got a huge committment from a lightening fast JUCO linebacker who had offers from half the Big 12, also we return starters Heeney and Tharp who look great by the way. In the secondary, we have two awesome committments from 2 true corners, one being the best athlete in Texas (literally) and the other one a high school backup (until now) to LSUs starting corner, along with returning Patmon and whoever else. So, Keegan don't write an article about how desperate things have gotten in Jayhawk country, we'll be fine.

Oh offense you say, how about returning monster receivers Omigie, Ford and Turzilli? Is any one of those guys less than 6' 4"? How about returning RBs Sims, Cox and Pierson? How about another highly recruited quarterback who will have a year in the system? How about returning Offensive lineman Aslam Sterling and Riley Spencer? What about Randall Dent? What about the big recruit we got out of Johnson county, the Beckman kid?

My point is that yes we are rebuilding but to put an article out like its going to be years before we can even hope to be competitive is just embarassing for Keegan. Jesus, had we not blown two 10 point 4th quarter leads, these guys would be building Weis a statue.

3

swunruhawk 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Exactly. One missed field goal, one 4th down stop, and a completed pass to Pick and this team would be the talk of the town. It's so much better than last season and the Cats are not unbeatable.

0

jayhawkkufan2 7 months, 4 weeks ago

my thoughts exactly kellerman411.

0

Massive 7 months, 3 weeks ago

As usual, all the "experts" said OU would whip K-State. K-State wins AT OU, and as usual, suddenly OU is no good. Laugh out loud. This K-State team may eclipse the great K-State team of 1998. Eighteen starters back from a 10-3 2011 team and the media picks K-State 6th in the Big XII. What a joke prediction.

0

danno1313 7 months, 3 weeks ago

If KU has all the great players listed above, why are they looking at a one win season? As far as recruits are concerned, wasn't Crist a 5 star? He can't hit open receivers. I ll be convinced with wins and wins only.

I hope we are getting close to announcing a big renovation or addition to Memorial Stadium since K State just started a $75 million dollar addition and renovation to Bill Snyder Family Stadium. I think everyone needs to see some tangible backing of the football program. It would help create an atmosphere of progress, since there appears to be little in the first year of our team renovation.

0

kuguardgrl13 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Seeing as AD Zenger has already talked about building a new T&F arena and sent out that survey about luxury seating, I'd say renovations are in the works. However, this team needs to win before anyone will ever donate to make renovations happen. Look at Mangino's failed Gridiron Club (aside from the fact that he was fired). Adding seats would only make it look more depressingly empty. And what more can they really do to it without ruining the Hill?

0

Phoghorn 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Memorial Stadium is fine as-is.

0

danno1313 7 months, 3 weeks ago

I was hoping more for an announcement of the team being renovated. They can play the games on Mass Street as long as they win for all I care. Priorities.

0

troutsee 7 months, 4 weeks ago

I hate to say this, but from what I have seen, unless we change QB's, KSU will bury us. Even with a change at QB, they will probably bury us, but at least a change would give us a chance. The fans have given up on Crist. I am sure that the team secretly has also. This would be a terrible mindset going into the KSU game. Crist must not start this game. There is too much negativity surrounding him. If the players and the fans can see it, why can't the coaches?

0

kuguardgrl13 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Heaps isn't eligible to play yet, I believe. Who else do we have?

0

Massive 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Kale Pick, he's better than Crist.

0

0

riverdrifter 7 months, 3 weeks ago

KU +27? I like a sure thing. I'll jump all over that if it's the line.

0

kuguardgrl13 7 months, 3 weeks ago

This will certainly be a tough game. Only a small number of the team has been to Manhattan, let alone actually played in their stadium. While wildcat fans aren't Mizzou fans, they still yell things when we come to their territory and they will be there in strong numbers. Prepare for a slaughtering. At least halftime will be good.

0

2005grad 7 months, 3 weeks ago

What about halftime will be good? K-State's band always blows away KU's...

0

bullpuphawk 7 months, 3 weeks ago

I too am totally disappointed on how the season has started. I was hopefull that we might get 4 - 5 wins this year. I fully expect KState to hand it to us big time. That's what makes this whole situation so much worse. As we struggle and are the laughing stock of the rest of the Big 12, KState is the talk of the league and the darlings right now. Just makes me sick. BUT, I have my tickets for the KState game and will be there with the same hope I have each game that maybe this will be the one where something good happens. As I said, I as disappointed as everyone else, but I refuse to let it change my loyalty for my Jayhawks and I will continue to be a KU fan through it all. ROCK CHALK

0

troutsee 7 months, 3 weeks ago

I hate to say it. But I also bought two tickets to the KSU game.

0

OakvilleJHawk 7 months, 3 weeks ago

A VERY ODD thing is happening in St.Louis. I am surrounded by Kansas State alumni and they are very wary of this game. They fear that the Wildcats will be so over-confident regarding Kansas that they won't bring their "A Game."

Quite frankly, a two week prep time tends to favor the underdog, if for no other reason than to allow the "dog" to get as many people as healthy as possible.

In this case, I am not saying it will bring a victory, but it may allow Kansas to be competitive. Our only chance for victory is to play turnover free, allow no big plays, create turnovers and dominate the clock......and the monkeys will be taking off from my butt hanger in about ten days!!

0

danmoore 7 months, 3 weeks ago

They don't need to bring their A game when they can beat us with their B game.

0

Take KU + Spread...seriously consider KU / Money Line...see 'ya at Kite's after the game...it could be fantastic!!!!!!!!
