Ex-Jayhawk Langford wins Israeli title

Former Kansas University guard Keith Langford has returned to the United States with another championship on his resume.

The 28-year-old Maccabi Tel Aviv standout — who was named MVP of the Adriatic League’s Final Four in early May — scored 16 points in last Thursday’s 83-63 Israeli League title game victory over Maccabi Ashdod.

Langford — he is a free agent rumored to be headed to either Italy or Istanbul for about $1.5 million annually — plans on traveling to Lawrence from his offseason home of Austin, Texas, in June.

“He said he’ll be coming back to his old stomping ground and work out with me a little bit,” said KU junior forward Justin Wesley, who is Langford’s brother. Wesley recently spent two weeks working out with his brother’s personal trainer, Celester Collier, in Austin.

“Two weeks every day for three or four hours a day. He not only works me out, but is a mentor, too,” the 6-9, 220-pound Wesley said.

Wesley averaged 1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 8.6 minutes in 38 games last season. As far as potential playing time in his junior campaign ...

“I mean I’ve not really looked at who is ranked this or that and who is coming in,” he said of a class of Anrio Adams, Perry Ellis, Landen Lucas, Zach Peters and Andrew White, plus freshmen red-shirts Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor. “We’ll see when everybody gets here and we start playing and working out. I’m not really thinking about that right now.”

T-Rob in the draft: Former KU forward Thomas Robinson’s hometown Washington Wizards may have to trade up a spot if they hope to land the 6-10 forward in the NBA Draft. New Orleans, which figures to take Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, won Wednesday’s lottery followed by Charlotte, Washington, Cleveland, Sacramento, Portland, Golden State and Toronto. USA Today, Sporting News and draftexpress.com say Charlotte will take Robinson. ESPN.com’s Chad Ford has Robinson falling to No. 5 and Sacramento. Ford’s top five: Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Brad Beal, Harrison Barnes and Robinson.

T-Rob to the Kings would be the worst, especially with that cancer DeMarcus Cousins still being there

I disagree, anywhere but Charlotte. Hopefully they go for MKG or BB and TRob gets picked up by the Bullets.

Uhm. Who are the bullets? What is this, 1997?

After that whole Gilbert Arenas fiasco, they're back to the Bullets.

The Wizards is a horrible name. Having grown up in DC, I still prefer the Bullets. I don't associate the name with gang wars.

Bad name indeed, but Bullets was jacked from Baltimore, so they should get a new name.

Wizards is a whimsical name.

T-Rob would be great (hometown hero returns) but the issue with the Wizards (aka Bullets) is that they have 2 young power forwards in Booker (Clemson) and Singleton (Florida St). They also have forward/center Kevin Seraphin (Guiane, France). My guess is that they would prefer Beal or perhaps MKG to go alongside Wall. On the other hand, they might be able to move Booker or Singleton as part of a package to pick up a seasoned shooting guard, and draft T-Rob who would complement the Brazilian, NeNe, the Czech, Vesely, and Seraphin.

I couldn't agree more! I live in Charlotte and the Bobcats would be the absolute worst distination for T-Rob! I haven't been to a game in almost 3 years after having season tickets before that.

"Ex-Jayhawk..."? Why do JW sportswriters refer to former KU players as former Jayhawks? Former KU bball or fballers for sure, but you're always a Jayhawk. Being a Jayhawk doesn't stop when your playing days on Mt. Oread end.

Everyone knows what was meant. Only a select few feel the need to point out the obvious. Ex-Jayhawk can mean the same as former KU basketball player and very few probably read it as you did. You would probably have it read...former University of Kansas basketball player Keith Langford...

You sound like a Texas A&M Aggie, vlbptt. Not a good look.

Now, go become Mr. Miyagi and turn Justin into the best player he can be.

What's the latest on Anrio Adams? Is he still coming to Lawrence?

0

KRichards 11 months, 3 weeks ago

Latest was that he reported he passed his ACT and plans to report in June 28th. No word from Self because Adams never signed a LOI

drgnslayr 11 months, 3 weeks ago

"...he said of a class of Anrio Adams, Perry Ellis..."

If this is true, why doesn't KUsports report it beyond slipping it into an article about Langford?

There is nothing restricting the media from reporting info about Anrio.

My guess is the athletic department asked media to wait until Anrio is on campus, perhaps to keep the light off of Anrio because he is fair game for other schools recruiting efforts.

I'd love to see Keith in the NBA, but I guess he is doing fairly well abroad. I always liked his play at KU, I guess I don't know enough about his size to evaluate whether or not he would be undersized or just not the scoring threat that he'd have to be.

Hurray for Keith! He is a great slasher and looks to be continually getting better. 1.5 mil a year. Sweet.

-On a side note: did anyone watch Chalmers and Pierce carry their teams for awhile last night? fun to watch two KU people doing so well in playoffs.

Harrison Barnes over TRob...laughable!!!!!

Thats why those bottom teams are at the bottom. You can't help those who won't help themselves!

Charlotte and Washington would be the two worst landing spots for T-Rob. I understand from a personal standpoint Washington would be good for T-Rob as he would be with Jayla and she would be close enough to see her father on a regular basis and stay with him while T-Rob is on road trips, but the Wizards are one of the worst run franchises in the NBA along with Charlotte.

Cleveland would be a nice fit because he would be with a solid young point guard in Kyrie Irving who would give T-Rob opportunities at a lot of offensive rebounds and easy baskets because Irving is a shoot first PG. He would likely split time with Tristan Thompson so his PT wouldn't be as high in Cleveland as other teams, but that could be a good thing as T-Rob is probably going to be foul prone early on and limited minutes would allow him to play with the intensity and motor that he did as a sophomore.

Sacramento would be nice because there is immediate playing time available, and again with shoot first PG in Tyreke Evans, T-Rob can clean up the glass and get a lot of easy put backs. Being paired with DeMarcus Cousins could be a little worrisome because they are both players who can let their emotions get the best of them from time to time and would not be good for T-Rob's development.

Portland would be the ideal spot for T-Rob to land and there are starting to be a lot of mock drafts that have T-Rob falling to Portland at #6. Portland has a veteran PG in Raymond Felton and T-Rob would be coming off the bench behind LaMarcus Aldridge so there wouldn't be the immediate pressure on T-Rob to perform like there would be in Cleveland or Sacramento. Portland is also the closest of these teams to being a playoff team next year.

I'm all over Portland or Cleveland. I will literally cry if he lands in Charlotte.

In my opinion Charolette and Washington are place where NBA players go to die. I agree that Portland would be a good suitor for T-Rob as Prysbilla and Kurt Thomas are aging, and he would only be in conention for minutes with JJ Hickson, but they have a brand new coach, and no one has stood up and taken leadership role for that team. I also think that maybe Detroit wouldn't be a terrible place to land either. Detroit is missing inside size, as most of their front line is tall and skinny, Monroe, Villenueva and Frye, and a young coach.
In a perfect world T-Rob could end up at a Boston, San Antonio, or OKC. T-Rob will need someone to be the focal part of the offense first, and he can fill in on the boards, and get the feel for the pace of the game. If he could end up as good as a Brandon Bass, David West, or Drew Gooden. He will need to increase his foot work and add another move to his game to get easy buckets before he can be a star in the NBA. I truly wish him the best of luck.

Based on the Lottery Party attire it looked like Cleveland and T-Rob were courting each other (bow ties). It all boils down to what each team feels they need.

I was disappointed with wearing man-pink...the color to represent the other university.

I saw on a mock draft, released today, showing the Miami Heat taking TT in the first round. How cool would that be, Chalmers and TT on the same team.

When is Keith Freeze going to get his due and have his jersey # retired? Yes he was not a consensus All-American, but he was one of the most clutch Jayhawks in the past decade. Not to mention he is #7 on the all-time scoring list...

here here! One of the alltime greats! No doubt! Would really like to enjoy his lefty drive to the rack against those NBA pros. I really think he is a starter on most bottom tier NBA teams and a first guy off the bench on almost all. There is a place for the KL in the NBA. I would love to see him on that SPURS team.

Who remembers that Nebraska game at Nebraska Keith's freshmen year?! We win that GT elite 8 OT classic if Keith doesnt foulout!
