Austin, Texas Six Kansas University track and field athletes advanced to the NCAA Outdoor on Friday by virtue of their top-12 finishes at the West Preliminary.
Diamond Dixon qualified by winning her quarterfinal heat of the 400 meters with a time of 51.71.
The Jayhawks will be represented in the 400 meters by Kyle Clemons. He finished third in his heat with a time of 46.19 to earn the automatic trip to the NCAAs.
Both Dixon and Clemons will compete today looking to advance as members of Jayhawk relay teams. Dixon will run on KU women’s 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams, and Clemons will compete in the 4x400-meter relay.
Rebeka Stowe advanced to the NCAA meet by finishing as the runner-up in her quarterfinal heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:08.55.
Demi Payne made quick work of the pole vault competition as the lone Jayhawk in the field. She cleared 13-08 and finished in a tie for fifth.
Paris Daniels qualified in the 100 meters with a third-place time of 11.43. And Michael Stigler qualified in the 200 meters, winning his heat in 50.30.
The NCAA meet will be held June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

I know I'm not the biggest track expert out there, but 50:30 in the 200 meters seems pretty slow for winning a heat.

You are right. Stigler runs the 400 meter hurdles.

especially the first day with Simpson qualifying in the long jump, KU women have a real shot at the national title. Let's just handle the baton....get our 4X400 relay team qualified, and we should be set.
