Sooners softball perfect vs. KU

— Oklahoma All-American pitcher Keilani Ricketts threw her first career perfect game as the seventh-ranked Sooners beat Kansas, 8-0 in five innings, on Friday at Marita Hynes Field.

Ricketts, a starter for Team USA, struck out 10 Jayhawks and retired 15 straight on the night. She also hit a solo home run in the first inning, following a homer from Sooners teammate — and Big 12 home-run leader — Lauren Chamberlain, who hit a grand slam later in the game.

Kansas starter Alicia Pille started the night with an out, but then gave up the back-to-back home runs and two singles. Reliever Kristin Martinez took the mound to replace Pille and closed out the inning with two consecutive outs.

Martinez held the Sooners without a hit for two more innings before OU batters reeled off four straight singles in the fourth.

KU coach Megan Smith then made her second switch of the night, pulling Martinez for Ashley Spencer. The Sooners won the game by run rule after the Jayhawks committed an infield error on the next at-bat and Chamberlain slammed the door shut with the four-run homer — her 14th of the year.
