Josh selby.... biggest dissapointment in ku basketball history.
VaJay 11 months, 1 week ago
I wouldn't put him there, but I have no interest in what he's doing in the NBA. He's not really a "Jayhawk" in the true sense. Yes, officially, he was here, but we were just a stepping stone for him.

You clowns just dont get it. We need Selby to succeed. Every arena he is introduced now as "from the Univ. of KS...": for a former #1PG to fail, would be a black mark on Self& KU, when it was a cruel twist of fate for Selby at KU: suspension + 2 injuries. He has the tools to do it (now that he is healthy), just a steep learning curve due to being so young. I think he needed another year to try to earn lotto status, but he is on his own. But I do wish him the success. He has the skills, the swagger, just short on experience (for now). And what about Lester Earl, regarding disappointments? How about CJGile? And that head-case Luke Axtell? Micah Downs? How about Xa-vee-yay Henry? The whole Henry brothers thing from Day 1 was more frustrating and team-chemistry-disrupting than Selby. Frankly, Selby busted his butt for us, played out of position as a 3wing,&was diving for loose balls into tables when already 80-85%. Xavier wouldnt do that for us. Sandbagged on us instead. You want a "real" perspective on Josh Selby, go ask Bill Self. Josh Selby was absolutely a prototypical, tough-ass combo with swagger, very much in the mold of Bill Self combo-guard recruits. Fate robbed his chance to shine for us. Not Josh. He tried. And he accepted Selfball's challenges by even agreeing to come to KU.

Just expressing a personal opinion bro. Nice talk.

Good point, VaJay.
You have an opinion to express, not facts to consider.
Don't let facts get in your way. Facts are annoying.

pessimist, Just look up from the floor for a minute to realize the Selby year was simply a sad experience for all parties, but at least try to understand why, eh? RCJH

A bit overly dramatic don't you think?

Rob, I dont have to spin at all to find the negative--when we are a top program, there are plenty of snipers and creative haters. There is a YouTube video (obviously made by an enemy fan) that lists very 'hauntingly' the former high-ranked kids that came to play for Self, and then some "adverse" info is solemnly scrolled across the screen+a chosen grim-faced pix of the player in question. They listed McDAA Chalmers as "not a lotto pick". Shady "fell out of lottery". McDAA Sherron "undrafted". Simien "no longer in NBA". McDAA JRGiddens "shamefully managed". "Top prospect" CJGiles failure. How hard would it be for such an individual to add Selby to that list & blame it all on Self? (Obviously, any ku fan with facts on each player can easily de-bunk the smear campaign in the video), but it definitely portrayed our main man (Self) in a very mean, disparaging light. Didnt help they chose some mean-contorted-face pictures of Self. That video was done as slick as a political attack ad. You get the point. Not everyone loves KU, apparently...

Nice to see Darnell Jackson trying to land with the Kings also. He could be a good mentor & friend for TRob, god love them both! Also nice to see Marcus bring the nasty. That is alot of how the NBA game is. Just like learning a "lesson" at the hands of MichState when Marcus was a frosh--> the next season it was the Spartan's Raymar Morgan who suffered a broken nose at the hands of the Twins. And that white bully (Nelson?) for UCLA got a black eye, courtesy of the Twins (same guy who Howland finally kicked off the team last year). Bill Self teams are NOT soft. KU "softie"/pussy fans need to understand that. Self was incessantly hounding the Twins in practice to be "tough". Understand that this comes from Self. Not Danny. Bill Self. Roy Williams' collectively soft teams are gone (although he had individual tough players). Bill Self is a fighter. He keeps creating teams that are an extension of his own personality. From RussRob to Shady to Darnell to Twins to Brady to Tyshawn, TRob, and Elijah...Self keeps finding kids that fit his bill or that he can groom to fit.

Eight TOs for T-Rob??? Damn.

It wasn't a big deal. They played a 40 minutes of hell style game and the Kings didn't have any ball-handlers on the court. Robinson was basically playing the 3 spot and he was expected to help with bringing the ball up the court. When he takes the court with the starting line-up he'll be playing the 4 spot and won't really have any ball-handling responsibilities unless he decides to make a quick move to the hoop from the perimeter. It's just one of those weird line-ups that happens in the summer league games that won't happen during the season.

8 turnovers for TRob...I can only guess he is all amped-up, trying to take his game up a notch, trying to blow the doors off opponents, and his teammates may not be used to see a big who is so quick. So maybe they werent in position for his pass or even on the same page mentally (yet) with TRob. Same exact explanation for some (but not all) of Tyshawn's turnovers (with KU), as Tyshawn simply plays at a speed that takes some getting used to. The chemistry TRob (& Tyshawn) had for years with their KU teammates is now gone. Playing with new faces. Takes time. TRob will adjust also.

They had TRob bring the ball up the court. They were playing a 2-1-2 zone press and he was rushing it. Made some nice plays passing. He was pissed after the game he gave 1 word answers and was less than thrilled with his game.
