Thomas Robinson takes third Big 12 player of the week honor this season

By Staff Reports     Jan 2, 2012

Kansas forward Thomas Robinson was selected as the Big 12 player of the week, the conference announced Monday morning.

The 6-foot-10 junior averaged 19.5 points and 14 rebounds while helping the Jayhawks to victories over Howard (89-34) and North Dakota (84-58) last week.

The Washington, D.C., native made 70 percent of his field goals (14 of 20) and 71.4 percent (10 of 14) of his free throws. He also added six assists, one block and three steals.

Robinson’s best game came against North Dakota, as he finished with a career-high 30 points and 21 rebounds. It was only the sixth time in Big 12 history that a player has posted at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in the same game and first time a Jayhawk player had done since Wayne Hightower in 1961.

Robinson also picked up Big 12 player of the week honors on Nov. 28 and Dec. 12. He is the only player in the Big 12 averaging a double-double (17.7 points, 12.2 rebounds per game).
