Former Jayhawk Sasha Kaun wins bronze medal with Russia

— Former Kansas University center Sasha Kaun is an Olympic bronze medalist.

Kaun, 6-11, 250 pounds from Tomsk, Russia, scored six points and grabbed six rebounds while playing 30 minutes in Russia’s 81-77 bronze medal victory over Argentina on Sunday in London.

Kaun, who played for KU’s 2008 national title team, was the first Jayhawk men’s basketball player to participate in the Olympic Games since Danny Manning in 1988, winning the bronze medal. Kaun currently plays professionally for CSKA Moscow.

"Frist"? Am I missing out on an inside joke?

Robin Smith 9 months, 1 week ago

More or less, yes.

  1. First is what many posters post when they are the first to comment.
  2. Frist is an anagram of first.
  3. Bill Frist is a political figure en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Frist

So an anagramatical pun based off of a pointless kind of posting convention. Not much of a joke.

Plus Bill Frist is an MD and I would suppose JayDoc MD would be an MD as well.

It's the kind of joke an MD might find amusing :-)

(all in fun, Mr. JayDocMD)

EDIT: for some strange reason, I didn't see the first reply to your post until after I had posted mine..._)

Thanks! I should have googled Bill Frist in the first place.

Not much of a joke..just the simple pleasure of making the initial post. Other than that, there really isn't anything to get.

Cgngrats Sasha!! I had a lot of fun watching all your Olympic games this year, as well as your World Games performances in 2010. Russia has a really good team that can flat out defend. It was a joy watching all these games, and your successes. RCJH!

Why has Paul Pierce never played in the Olympics?

A couple stories: Basically in 2004, he was politely told no. He then in 2006 was on the losing teams of the PAN-am games. In 2007 when tryouts were happening for the 2008 Olympics he had the bad knee. I'm not sure what kept him from 2012, I think he would have been valuable.

Yeah. He got tagged with the failure of the '02 team at the Worlds when they finished an embarrassing 6th on home soil, so they didn't take him in Athens when they should have on a team that was so desperate for Wing talent (because guy like Kobe and McGrady declined) it went with Rookies Wade, LeBron, and Melo. In '08 he was hurt, and now there's so much younger and better talent at his position (LeBron, Durant, Kobe, Melo, who's a beast in international play) that it doesn't make sense to bring him out at this point, and he's pretty old. He was pretty banged up at the end of this season too, after all.

Watched some vintage Kaun. He could guard the post. It was amazing how rarely a post man got an easy look within 15 feet, even when playing so injured he could barely snag a rebound. He has to have been the best play on a blown knee post in KU history

Kirk Hinrich - didn't he play great in a NCAA tournament game with a pretty bad ankle?

The little gymnast with the bad ankle.

Add Sherron Collins, Tyrel Reed, Josh Selby. (In the middle of the season both Selby and Reed were flown to some uberspecialist in NCarolina, as both had nagging foot issues most of that season).

Couldn't a picture have been added to the Sasha article? Come on guys, it would have been much better than a pop up ad!

Dear LJW, I would like to add my vote to having stories on this website ALSO having a correlating photo of some sort to match the content of the story or the headline. Please? Thanks.
