Kansas University freshman Rio Adams, a 6-foot-3 guard from Seattle’s Rainier Beach High, has qualified academically for a scholarship, coach Bill Self said Saturday.
Self said he received word from the NCAA Clearinghouse regarding Adams on Wednesday or Thursday.
In July it was reported that freshman guard Milt Doyle, 6-4 from Chicago Marshall High, had qualified. Both had some concerns about their academic eligibility heading into the final days of the 2011-12 high school academic year.
Self said all of KU’s incoming players are eligible and will make the trip to Switzerland on Sunday for KU's upcoming four-game tour of Switzerland and Paris.

Your schtick, on all KU sites and message boards, is painful to read. Please stop.

I admit I am shocked. I didn't think they would even get to their cases until after football had started. Hopefully this means they have made some improvements to their system to streamline the process.
KU62 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Streamline, perhaps ... more likely just admitting there were no real concerns in the first place. Maybe the three "partial" rulings last year means our dues are paid for a while – though final four teams are usually under a microscope.

They actually got their act together and got it done before school starts. I have to admit the NCAA is having a very good summer.

Sweet! Now we can wait out these next three months til the season starts. I take back some of the bad thoughts I'd had of the NCAA in recent years.
Alohahawk 10 months, 2 weeks ago
My guess on how much quicker they've become as of late: Not to give them to much of an excuse for how slow the qualifying procedure has been over the years, but the NCAA no longer has to spend so much time monitoring the number of phone calls and such made during the recruiting process by approximately 350 division I schools, and all the other divisions as well. Imagine the amount of time that one item can have forced the NCAA to expend for each sport every year?
That one rule change could significantly assist numerous athletes, which have been held in limbo so late into a school's first semester on previous occasions.

My Man!! Wish I could say the same for Nerlens at Kentucky...not really though

This puts a huge crimp in Self's pre-shirt strategy of getting guys in here to sit a season and develop. :-)
Now Self will have to red shirt some one, or force a transfer, or play everyone 7 mpg.
How would you like to make the transatlantic flight in coach if you were 6-8?
buckleyhawk 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Being 6-8 and having had to make many a translatlantic flights in coach, let me tell you -- it sucks. Hard. And for a long time.
By my count, 7 legit players for 1-2-3 and 7 legit players for 4-5. Would almost bet we're looking at 2-3 redshirts...

Doyle,Rio and Naadir, One of you 3 will get Minutes behind EJ. Which of you are going to be ready for the Big12? Which of you 3 will earn the respect of Coach and play crucial minutes throughout the NCAA tourney like Kevin Young did. From all indications, This is a fast, talented team and because of the talent, the rotation might grow by using 8 or nine players in the rotation. One of the beautiful things about basketball is that when coach picks the starters, and those who will be getting minutes, there usually is no argument or complaint from any of those who are not in those groups. With this team, IMO, any of the 8 rookies could be starters on this team this year. Way to go Rio. We now have our team. Enjoy your long travel day.

Interesting that you say behind EJ, are you inferring that EJ will be the point guard?
KGphoto 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Self has said this much. Besides, who else is gonna run the point? Tharpe is still in the doghouse, then we have freshmen Doyle and Rio. I don't see any options here.

Jayhawks Add Combo Guard Anrio Adams by KUAthletics
Great interview by Rio. listen to Self at the end of this. Haven't seen Doyle yet, but I know this kid is going to be great. With this offensive week ahead in Europe, Coach seems to be looking forward to a more up and down offense. I love it. Very early on the 8 rookies will be playing Michigan State in the Champions tournament on nationl TV. We've been told several times that Ellis and Mac will be the studs but then - Andrew White possibly best shooter we've ever recruited. Lucas, Trayler, Peters 3 powerful big men. Peters could be like Tony Gonzales when he played BB at Cal. According to the Detroit Press, Doyle is the biggest steal in recruiting this year. Please, whoever is in switzerland at the game, please stream it from your phone to anyone at the LJW so we can watch.

From the Self interview in the other story this morning, it seems like Naadir hasn't been cutting it in the 10 practices.
REHawk 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Coach is definitely imprinting a steady rat-a-tat-tat on Naadir's neuromuscular cadence. Prove your mettle pronto, Mr. Tharpe, or plan to rejoin the cheering squad on the pine.

It appears that the NCAA has another target in mind:
