Kansas University freshman rower Erin Brogan is one of 24 student-athletes from around the country selected to attend the 2012 USRowing Women’s National Team Freshman Camp, it was announced Tuesday by USRowing.

Also Tuesday, KU’s Varsity Four was named Conference USA Boat of the Week. The Kansas crew of seniors Kathryn Schoonover, Paige Stephens and coxswain Lindsey Bricklemyer and juniors Emily Starr and Ashleigh Allam won the grand final at the Knecht Cup on Sunday.

It is the first C-USA honor for the KU program, which competes in rowing in a combined megaconference of the Big 12 and C-USA.

Well, apparently the crew team is way ahead of our other sports in embracing the super-conference model that's been touted nationally for the last couple of years.

It's because only 4 teams in the Big 12 field rowing teams, and this mega conference you speak of has 9 rowing teams total...

...not to mention that KU sacrificed rowing to be all-women, which to me makes it less interesting to both men and women as a sport, both as a fan and as a team. Really sad.
