I just want to beat kensucky right now, don't care where we are ranked.

DRsmith 8 years, 7 months ago

Too high. Should be more like the low 20s without Mclemore and Taylor. Wonder when the actual vote took place.

onlylookin2score 8 years, 7 months ago

Lets see... Like Vandy at 7... I think UCONN is better than OSU...Duke is overrated...Texas A&M might make it to the NCAA tourney, but they'll flop.. playing nobody outside of the Big 12...and anyone who thinks Michigan State isn't going to be better than Missouri...???? Really!!??!

yates33333 8 years, 7 months ago

Have you seen Duke's roster? If not, check it out. I am amazed at Michigan State's and Texas' rankings. I agree Vandy is too high, but Florida is too low. Still it is hard to know what to expect based solely on the rosters.

pgittemeier09 8 years, 7 months ago

i have seen dukes roster and rivers is straight stud but no one else....too many plumlee kids, they are not that good but continue to be mcdonalds AA cuz their white and can jump

justinryman 8 years, 7 months ago

I could see us higher, could be lower, so the average is about right.

I don't get all the worry about depth. You don't need a lot of depth unless you are going to foul a lot or your starting 5 is week. If you have 6 or 7 really good players that mesh well thats what you need. Then you have your 8 and 9th guys fill in for fouls.

Not everyone on the floor needs to be All Conference, they just need to be team mates that can play together and have each others backs.

This team has some leaders, has some big guys, has some guards, has some shooters, and some passers. What else do you need??

texashawk10 8 years, 7 months ago

The biggest issue with the depth is if KU gets bitten by the injury bug like they were last season. Last year, Selby, Little, Releford, Robinson, Taylor, Johnson, and Withey all missed games due to injury, some only a game or two and some missed substantial time. KU was able to survive those injuries because of the depth 1-11 last season. This year, KU is solid 1-8 which means if KU has the same injury problem as last year, it will be much harder withstand major injuries without seeing it show up in the W-L column. In an ideal situation, the depth of KU is not an issue, but teams rarely go through a season without injuries so hopefully any injuries missed by KU players are major injuries.

Why don't you go ahead and enlighten us on what preseason polls are based upon.

Michael Bratisax 8 years, 7 months ago

Yeah..Not sure why we would be in the top 5 either. Besides, its the most meaningless poll of the season.

nuleafjhawk 8 years, 7 months ago

lol - wondered the same thing.

math was never my strong point, but thought that unanimous meant ALL.

Allan Jackson 8 years, 7 months ago

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

chriz 8 years, 7 months ago

Where's Wichita State? I figured they'd at least be mentioned in "also receiving votes".

I think that's a pretty accurate ranking, although we'll likely get ranked higher towards the end of the season as we mop up the crappy Big XII and get another conference title. We'll probably go into the tourney as a 3 or 4 seed and get beaten by a 5 or 6. in the S16. Or maybe by a 1 or 2 in the E8.

I DON'T think we'll suffer a significant upset in the tourney this year. If we stay healthy, we have just the right amount of depth to get our team into a rhythm. If we have injuries...well...it won't be an upset, because we might not be that good. Depending on several variables, of course (who gets injured, what position, and etc.)

kusayzone 8 years, 7 months ago

I totally agree...where is Wichita State....their starting lineup is a veteran group...and they did win the NIT last year.....

actorman 8 years, 7 months ago

I don't necessarily disagree with your points, but feel need to point out that if we're a 3 or 4 seed, we would play a 6 or 5 seed (respectively) in the second round, not the Sweet 16. In the Sweet 16 we would likely be playing a 2 or 1 seed.

chriz 8 years, 7 months ago

Ah...you're right. Let's hope we're playing a 2 or 1 seed!

jaybate 8 years, 7 months ago

This means KU should be ranked at least 5th.

always_correct 8 years, 7 months ago

I was under the impression it's "unanimous" because the rules don't allow you to vote for yourself. So here, Roy voted for Kentucky.

Tony Bandle 8 years, 7 months ago

Basically, preseason polls are based on hype, PR., the previous season's results, guesses, wishes, fantasies.....kind of like our government.

DRsmith 8 years, 7 months ago

That's why I figured ku was ranked so high.

"Some Recommended New Conferences"

The Big Ecumenical Conference: Notre Dame Brandeis Bob Jones BYU TCU Loyola Marymount Loyola Chicago Vatican State

Lots of deeply irrational rivalries in this conference.

The Big Fracking and Cracking Conference Texas Oklahoma Kansas Idaho Wyoming Montana

Lots of very combustible rivalries here.

The Big Sun Burn Conference

Hawaii USC UCLA San Diego St. Arizona Juarez Juco Cayman State Key West College Jamaica Man State University of Southern Cuba

SPF 100 class rivalries.

Apparently 2 people didn't realize that Pullen graduated

Woody Cragg 8 years, 7 months ago

This is the coaches poll, so I'll gladly take Baylor's 12 spot & a 3 seed. missery's high payroll evidently got them in on the curb. I'll be surprised if they even make the 65th or 66th spot. Maybe we'll get lucky & they'll just cancel all their remaining obligations in the entire conf. Am so sick of hearing about them I could puke. Remember, muck fizzou! Always!

Ben Kane 8 years, 7 months ago

remember those last three words forever, even when we don't play them anymore.

somehow a group from a weapons manufacturing plant (for the army) outside of KC made it to my neck of the woods here in kenstinky today for a tour of our plant (we are well known in the manufacturing world for certain things i wont go into). They were divided into two groups and I had to lead one of the tours. I demanded that all the mizery fans amongst them (3 or 4) out of 17 not be in my tour. they gave no objections when i explained i was a kansas alum.

Hammertoe 8 years, 7 months ago

If Mizzou does move on to a bigger and better conferecne, do you really think they will care about any past rivalry with Kansas? They will be laughing all the way to the bank.......

actorman 8 years, 7 months ago

What bank??? After deducting all the added travel expenses, they'll be lucky to make the same money they're making now (or the same money they would be making after the Big XII negotiates its next contract). And on top of that, they'll be p*ss-poor in virtually every sport.

Hammertoe 8 years, 7 months ago

No need to be jealous of Mizzou as they have better opportunities... Every team that has had a chance to leave the Big 12 has done so. It's all about football... How many points do you think Mizzou will beat KU in football this year? As Bill Self said. Basketball is taking the back seat to football. So head to the back of the bus...

Tom Gillaspie 8 years, 7 months ago

hammertoe - get a life. in other words - piss off.

Hammertoe 8 years, 7 months ago

How many schools in all of D 1 basketball will have 3 recruits ineligible? None. Does that tell you anything?

pgittemeier09 8 years, 7 months ago

it tells me ku has national championships and k state does not STFU

nuleafjhawk 8 years, 7 months ago

now hold on a second pgittemeier09 --

I might be wrong, but I think K-State has a couple of National Livestock Judging Championships.

hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

ryanw 8 years, 7 months ago

Whose still rank, even though we lost almost our whole starting players from last year?

Benjamin Piehler 8 years, 7 months ago

Ill take 3 ineligable over a single suspension due to behavior. Not like it reflects on the university at all. KU had anything to do with their choice in transferring high schools... not a biggie, you're wasting your breath here again.

Michael Bratisax 8 years, 7 months ago

St. Johns also had 3 recruits ineligible...Jakarr Sampson, Norvel Pelle and Amir Garrett. Typical Mizzou booster/grad/inbred fan. They always speak without the facts or knowledge needed.

ryanw 8 years, 7 months ago

Bill self also didn't bribe them. Plus, Calipari is just like Rick Barnes, can get the talent but can't coach with of crap.

Benjamin Piehler 8 years, 7 months ago

Seems like he just focuses on getting kids ready for NBA and just lets them do whatever during a game.

Jonathan Andrews 8 years, 7 months ago

Baylor is overrated. You can hardly even be a top-3 team in the Big XII without above-average guard play, and they have one of the thinnest and least talented backcourts in the league. Perry Jones and Miller are both lotto-pick talent, and Acy, Anthony Jones and UCLA transfer / Darrell Arthur's BFF J'Mison "BoBo" Morgan provide killer frontcourt depth. But Walton and Dennis will struggle in expanded roles, and Bello won't be an immediate contributor, IMO.

On the other end of the spectrum, I know #6 is pretty high, but is Duke underrated? Ugh, I just threw up in my mouth a little...

Ben Simonett 8 years, 7 months ago

If UNC or Kentucky win the NC this year I'm going to be upset.

KU's resume is already lacking compared to the other blue bloods, adding a 6th NC to UNC or an 8th to Kentucky is only going to make our 3 look even worse.
