Kansas volleyball falls to OU

? Kansas University jumped to a 2-0 lead, but ultimately suffered a five-set Big 12 volleyball loss to Oklahoma on Saturday, 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-9.

OU improved to 18-5 overall, 5-2 in the Big 12. KU fell to 12-7 and 0-6.

Kansas outhit Oklahoma in the first three sets, but the Sooners rattled of a .364 attack percentage in the fourth set and .400 in the fifth to rally.

Senior outside hitter Allison Mayfield led the floor with 21 kills. Making her first start of the season, senior setter Nicole Tate posted a KU-season-high 59 assists, five shy of her all-time best.

Four Jayhawks recorded double-digit kills for the first time since Oct. 7, 2009 – also against Oklahoma. Freshman outside hitter Sara McClinton set a new career-high with her 14 kills, while middle blockers Caroline Jarmoc and Tayler Tolefree cranked out 15 and 12 kills, respectively. The duo also teamed up for 13 blocks.

Defensively, KU received double-digit dig performances from five Jayhawks for the second time this season, with sophomore libero Brianne Riley’s 17 digs leading the team.

Tolefree led the team with seven blocks, helping the Jayhawks to 14 as a team.

OU — led by Big 12 blocking leader Sallie McLaurin’s 10 blocks — had 17.0 blocks as a team.

Freshman outside hitter Tara Dunn led the Sooners with 16 kills.

KU will host Kansas State at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Horejsi Center. That match will be televised live by Metro Sports.
